Do we know 1I is targeted for launch this year too? I mean, its possible considering reports of more failures of atomic clocks in the constellation, but I do not know if there has been any report confirming it so far. 1H is confirmed for the second half of the year to replace 1A.

That's what beidou is saying. This thread is for IRNSS 1I.

Yes. I was referring to the '2nd half of 2017' in the title of the thread. I haven't seen any sources confirming the 1I for launch this year (or I may have missed it) as the original plan was to keep it as a ground spare.

Highly unlikely this will go up in 2017. A H1 2018 launch is more likely i think based on the fact that the construction of this satellite has been outsourced to some private company.

VSSC Director hints at the launch of IRNSS-1I later this year
Quote
The space agency plans to launch an additional space navigation satellite later this year to augment the services of the Rs 1,420 crore NavIC.

"The two spare navigation satellites will make up for any shortfall in the operations and service provided by NavIC to the users round-the-clock over the next 10 years," added Sivan.

There were previous reports of failure of another 3 atomic clocks across the constellation, possibly distributed across multiple satellites as none of the other satellites have been reported to be out of action as yet. IRNSS-1I might be launched to a suitable orbital inclination and location to act as backup for one of these.

Assembly of IRNSS-1I started, targeted for May 2018 as per original plan. No decision yet on building yet another backup
Quote
Is the Assembly of 1I being advanced? Back in December, the consortium of six industries was given six months to work on each spacecraft. The deadline for IRNSS-1I was around May 2018. Dr. Annadurai said that as of now, the timeline was the same. The launch of 1I, when it was ready, would also have to align with ISROs other missions, he said.

IRNSS-1I location will be the 55E IGSO location, where IRNSS-1A and IRNSS-1B already reside. From fcc.gov:
Quote
On January 18, 2018, Intelsat License LLC was granted special temporary authority for 30 days, beginning February 1, 2018, to operate its fixed earth station in Riverside, CA to provide launch and early orbit phase (LEOP) services for the Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS)-1I satellite on the following center frequencies: 6415.000 MHz and 6423.496 MHz (Earth-to-space) and 4188.768 MHz and 4196.928 MHz (space-to-Earth).
The permanent orbital and in-orbit testing location for IRNSS-1I will be 55.0 E.L.

NET is still end of March.

"The next launch will be in March end or April, but NavIC is already in full scale as four satellites are sufficient for navigation and we already have six."

Assuming the GSAT-6A launch goes according to this schedule, before IRNSS-1I:
Launch is set for 24th March. GS1 (1st stage) and GS2 (2nd stage) integration have been completed. Cryogenic upper stage has been shipped to launch site and GSAT-6A is fully assembled undergoing final stages of testing.

How soon could the IRNSS launch follow?  A couple of weeks? (different launch complex, different LV, how much commonality of launch campaign crews, etc.?)

The shortest turn around time isro has achieved so far is 18 days and that was in 2016 between GSLV F-05 and PSLV C-35. If i had to guess i would say there will be at least a 2 week gap between F-08 and C-41 missions to allow for launch site readiness and final checks to be carried out on launch vehicle and payload. C41 payload is also critical to bring the IRNSS navigation system back to full capacity so they will probably carry out additional checks further increasing the likelihood that C41 will be launched in first week of april.

This doesn't seem to be related to IRNSS-1I launch but rather to a missile launch.
