Painted white.  Hard to photograph, so I will try it during the day again, tomorrow.  I am going with the grid fins I have for the moment.  When Hobbes gets the other available, I will switch them out.

I have done a bit more work.  Applied some decals.  I am going to have to print some wider ones for the core, since they have to go over the conduit.  And a big FH for the fairing.  I will replace the grid fins on the booster when the parts arrive.

While I have been building all of my 1/48 scale Revell Gemini models, I have also been collecting several Mercury spacecraft in the same scale. Now, I have a complete set of 6 flown Mercury spacecraft. in addition to my Gemini fleet!

Clockwise from bottom left: Freedom 7, Liberty Bell 7, Friendship 7, Aurora 7, Sigma 7 and Faith 7.

My Heavy was almost finished today. (I was kind of inspired to work on it) The new grid fins will arrive Thursday. And I made new decals, which gave me all types of problems.

Now all you need is a 1/144 Roadster and Starman...  nice job!

FWIW, I print out decals on my color laser, and I've found using anything other than the Testors spray, which you're also using, results in decals that curl up to die when wet.  So the Testors bonder isn't cheap, but it's the best to use, as far as I can tell.

I think I put too much on this time.  Made them too thick.

It's a fine line between too much and too little.

Hi Ron,

here you can see two videos of an interesting young German team BUZZ Space Models about 3D printing and building of Falcon 9 Rockets.

Maybe it's interesting for you.

I've seen there models, and they are nicely detailed.  But I like to do the building myself.  Even his kits are to "finished" for me to have fun with!  LOL.  But, I may get is the launch pad erector!

Edit: I see the bigger kits are built up from parts on plastic tube, the way I build mine!  I wish they would sell those parts for a 1/72 scale kit!

I received my new grid fins and finally installed them.  I may redo the decals when I get some clear paper.

Finished model of my space shuttle Challenger from the STS-61A Spacelab D-1 mission.  The last successful of the orbiter.  Many extra parts added, cameras, modified the Spacelab, the truss for the GAS canisters, tile decals, surgical tape for thermal blankets on Spacelab, payload bay and OMS Pods.

I'm really hopeful that we can get, one day, a nice accurate-out-of-the-box orbiter when NASM finishes scanning in Discovery.  It takes a lot of work, as was done here (and nicely so!) to get a good result from the very old 1/144 Revell and 1/72 Revell and Monogram kits.

This is the Tamiya 1/100 scale kit.  I think it is the best shuttle kit there is.  You will of course, need to make modifications to it for whatever orbiter you want to build.  I like the Airfix kit as well, if I am building a launch version in 1/144.

"8 Days or Bust" Gemini 5 is done. Launched Aug 21,1965 with Gordo Cooper and Pete Conrad, it was, at the time, the longest space flight. 120 orbits! A 1/48 scale vintage Revell kit, with Realspace Models update kit. I had to make a radar pod for the back. I will do an updated group shot of my Gemini fleet a soon. I now have, in 1/48 scale G-3, G-5, G-6, G-7, G-9 and G-12. Also, MOL, Big Gemini, and Blue Gemini and Rogallo wing. In 1/72 scale, I have G-8, Gemini Titan II and a generic Gemini in 1/24 scale. Next up will be Gemini 3 spacewalk.

I read some of these books as a little kid. So, when I have an extra Mercury Redstone, and some spare time. I rebuilt it as the rocket from the book.  Project Quicksilver Mercury Redstone. When Horizon Models came out with their very nice Mercury Redstone, I still had my old Dragon Models Mercury Redstone. I decided to convert it to rocket Mike Mars flew in the old book series I read as a child. I just repainted it and used extra decals from my Horizon kits. I used one of the Horizon spacecraft and painted it orange as they were described in the book. It was a fun and quick project.
