AS for a silly thing to launch: How about the submersible James Bond car Musk bought a while back? As it is a submersible, it is already airtight, only needs a heat shield and can even drive back to shore after splashdown
How about 60 nano sats. Each with a battery, solar cells and a bunch of super bright LEDs. Station keeping would take some development. But for SpaceX, I'm sure a trivial problem. Future advertising possibilities could fund ITS!
I like the idea of a really large aluminized balloon that would orbit for maybe a month or two. It would be very bright and would de-orbit gracefully. How large could it be? Maybe a few hundred feet across? It could be filled with carbon dioxide or nitrogen from a small-ish bottle since it wouldn't take much pressure to inflate.

Musk did say something silly... I'm thinking half mile in size should be nicely visible.Gotta get back to work. Having way too much fun on this stuff. Edit: Sentence that could be taken extremely the wrong way deleted.
You can see that in it "kneeled" position, the frame is down on the deck and the tracks are more proud.Matthew

There HAS to be a story there. Why? Don't duck answering our questions....
