...
“SpaceX does not anticipate significant changes with Falcon 9 in the future, however with the successful recoveries of the first stage boosters, SpaceX now has the unique opportunity to do a post-flight inspection. Pending these inspections, SpaceX will make the modifications necessary to continue to increase reliability. We have a few upgrades for crew and National Security Space (NSS) missions, the vast majority of which should be done within the next 12 months,” she says.

Article also has a few more quotes from Gwynne, nothing really new.  Has some stuff on Proton, Ariane 6, H3, Chinese launchers too.

SpaceX leased two extra pads in CCAFS?

Looks like it is in connection with building landing pads.

SpaceX leased two extra pads in CCAFS?

This is interesting since it seems inconsistent with their previous statements that they will be constructing additional landing pad(s) within already leased LC13.

Tweet clarified:
Quote
Clarification: @SpaceX is speaking approval to build two more landing pads within current Landing Zone and have NOT leased two more pads.

That sort of thing,  if actually said by SpaceX spokespersons, might lead to suggestions of arrogance on their part....

So glad to hear it's probably not official.

Elon Musk ‏@elonmusk
@gdoehne Expendable. Future flights will go on Falcon Heavy or the upgraded Falcon 9.

George ‏@gdoehne
@elonmusk When you say upgraded Falcon 9 are you referring to the Block 5 you mentioned here? Timing fits.

Elon Musk ‏@elonmusk
Yes. Block 5 is the final upgrade of the Falcon architecture. Significantly improves performance & ease of reusability. Flies end of year.

Does that mean there will be no legs? Been awhile since we have seen a legless Falcon launch.

Or ITS, or a Mars to Earth CommX fork, or all of the above.

I wonder if there is any experimentation left to do that they could use this expendable stage for, that would have been too risky when they were landing one.

Any experimentation will have to be done with cold gas thrusters only. There won't be propellant for the engines, grid fins for atmospheric control, or legs for deployment testing.

That really limits what experimentation they can do. Maybe see how fast they can flip the stage around, after the payload is out of harms way.

So they run the 1st stage to complete depletion?

If they're expending the booster anyways, I don't see why they wouldn't give the payload the best transfer orbit possible. That would mean running the tanks essentially dry, leaving only the necessary remainder for the turbopumps.
