Originally they were working on a pulsejet spaceplane concept. That appeared to be a PDE system.
Recently though they announced a successful mode change test for a rocket/jet rotating detonation wave engine. Not entirely sure if jet mode means air breathing per se, or they are switching from pure oxygen to air (nitrogen/oxygen mix). Considering the injection requirements for an RDE chamber, I would assume they mean switching from oxygen to mixed air injection.
