Lovely read Chris G and a great translation of the MOD stuff.

Still no press kit for this flight?

Not until the final week ahead of launch I think.

Since neither spacewalk participant is an Atlantis crew member, is the EVA scheduled during the "135" flight considered a Shuttle or an ISS EVA?
Thank you.

Wow, didn't think of that Atlantis will land on July 20th on the anniversary of Apollo 11.

For a newbie who wants to understand more, this is great!  I had a question about the payload I was embarrassed to ask but the article and picture answered it for me.  Thanks so much for such an informative piece.

From what I've seen, it's classed as STS-135 EVA-1 to distinguish it from traditional ISS crew EVAs done during stage operations when the Shuttle orbiter is not present.

Will Ron Garan and Mike Fossum have a mission patch on their suits for EVA during STS 135?

If so, will it be EXP-28 or STS 135?

Thank you.

I would say that if they do, it would be EXP-28 since that is the crew they are a part of.

In the event that the STS-135 crew needs to return aboard Soyuz, I understand it will be done over a 12-month period. I seem to recall hearing Doug Hurley say that he'd come home last after 12 months and Sandy Magnus will come home in third place after 9 months. What about Rex Walheim and Chris Ferguson?

Is there any particular reason why they'd be coming back in this particular sequence?

Thanks

See this site's news articles! http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2011/06/sts-135-special-topics-timeline-get-wells-reviewed/

Also, this question should be in the STS-135 area or Q&A, not general.

Merged and Ben - you have L2 - it's all over the FRR presentations. We'll be writing it up as a later article for those who don't have access (and why the heck not? lol)

Can anyone link to a good, general launch day timeline?  You know, something like Crew eats breakfast, suiting up, boarding the shuttle, tests, etc.?  I'd like to be able to give my son a sort of play-by-play for the launch.

Or, should I just tune into a radio station for this?  What's the best station?

There is usually a fairly detailed timeline posted on the NASA website giving details of events from L-3 days.  However, it is only posted just before it comes into effect.  The old STS-134 timeline can be viewed here:

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/news/134_countdown_milestones.html

The one for STS-135 should appear on this link in due course:

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/news/135_countdown_milestones.html

(It will show a "Page Not Found" error until it is created by NASA)

The NASA site has a more generic and simplified version.

So given the built-in holds, we'd probably be getting to KSC as they go into the T -3 Hour hold?
