I wonder what Spacex charged for that one?

The insurance was high I'm sure, but the price difference to the accountants is probably like free money!   8)
IIRC $60 million, a mere pittance  :)

SpaceX benefited from the recent period that has been relatively free of insurance claims.  Even for a new vehicle, rates are well under 20%.
If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

I'm happy that we are now a bit closer to having cheeseburgers and good music on Mars. I was unable to be in the forum during launch because I was having to bring down a storm damaged tree threatening to fall on the garage. Despite the crisis I plugged my iPhone into the stereo on my truck and listened to the countdown from a distance. Putting down the chain saw for a few minutes I watched the tiny screen and rejoiced inside as they finally got off the pad. Once the tree was down I checked twitter just in time to see the tweet that SES-8 was on the way to GSO. Falcon goes up, tree comes down, and nothing gets mangled in the process. Happy day.  8)

SES paid $24M for a $200M policy, so 12%.

I like the thread name!  ;D  Let's hope F9v1.1 upper stage delivers on that re-start.

Well, the second stage did restart (big thumbs up), after a few launch recycles,in a little over a week. But it is now done & it is Thai is next on the launch menu......

Please, no MSG added.

New forum record of online users ;)

And we didn't get any new L2 subscribers during that period! #DoingItWrong.

Me paying the hosting invoice tomorrow....

You probably got reddit bombed. Can you look at server stats and see what the most common referral URL was?
LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

Well done to SpaceX for their first successful GTO launch, to Orbital for building a tough bird and to SES for taking the risk on SpaceX and it paying off!

Now we look forward to Thaicom-6, likely next year, and CRS-4.

Congratulations SpaceX.  This was a milestone event for the US commercial launch business.

Seems like the SpaceX crew watching from the USAF viewing stands at the east end of the causeway.

That Bahama video is funny listening to them try to figure out what it is. First meteor ever to go up instead of down!  ;D

But by that time the rocket is going mostly horizontal... so they can't really really tell that it isn't descending. The expanding plume cloud of the MVac also probably makes it look like it is getting lower, not higher. :)
