Turkey 9 is set for liftoff!

Or is it a Turfalcon? Which would be a Falcon stuffed into a turkey. (With apologies to turduckens everywhere.)

Bummer they scrubbed. But the silver lining is that I'll actually be able to watch the Thanksgiving launch attempt live at home. I'll hook up my iPad tuned to the SpaceX webcast to my bigscreen HDMI and watch it that way.
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

I feel this thread has gone on far too long without a Monty Python sketch. I found this relevant after today's events and all the concerns over extraneous venting.

But seriously, a bunch of SpaceX folks for whatever reason suddenly find themselves stuck in Florida away from friends and family for Thanksgiving.  Raise a glass to these producers and innovators and buy a round if you see them.

If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

It’s not just any holiday, it’s the only holiday devoted to the opening and settling of a new world, taking huge risks and suffering untold hardships to move people into an alien environment, far from anything they’ve ever known, to see if by the grace of God they can survive, put down roots, and lay the foundations for future freedom and prosperity.

I could go into more detail about Thanksgiving dinner, and how for many turkey and ham symbolize the SLS, while for others turkey and ham symbolize the SLS, and how mash potatoes are LOX while brown gravy is LH2 and white gravy is RP-1, while yams are PBAN solids, stuffing is a perchlorate, and cranberry sauce is hypergolic with red wine, but these things have been known since Plymouth rock, though unspoken.

So no, it’s not just any holiday, it’s the human space settlement holiday.

The taste in music in here is very... interesting...

Here is some better music.

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

So who else will be watching it on their phone that is hidden from family under the table  ;)

You mean putting up a projector/big screen tv and getting everyone in the family to be quiet and watch.

Well I guess we now have the name for the first manned Dragon, "Mayflower"!

For that matter lets name the Dragon used for the LAS abort test "Speedwell", since it will quickly return to port after launch.  ;)

Appropriate story problem:

How thin would you have to slice a raw turkey so that when laid in the flame trench it is fully cooked by the time the Falcon 9 leaves the pad?  This launch has the potential to be the most awesome Thanksgiving feast ever!

SLS has nothing to with human settlement or Spacex.

SLS has nothing to with human settlement or Spacex.

I took it to mean SLS was a turkey filled with pork.  The human settlement refers to SpaceX since that is a goal of their founder.  This is a party thread. YMMV.

Wow! That's not like Rand to say something like that, especially on something completely unrelated! I'm so shocked.

And I think people were going for apt songs, as opposed to personal taste...otherwise.....ah, yeah - would still be "interesting" ;D

You know, scrubs remind me of something.  I can't quite place it... hmm...

Oh, wait!  I remember!  Scrubs are like NFL ties (*ties!*), wouldn't you agree, Jim?  (I'm a native Cheesehead, so I was on the other non-winning side Sunday.)

We already moved our Thanksgiving meal to a bit after the Packers game Thursday.  Since I'm doing the turkey (two birds, even) for my extended family, if SES-8 is on for Thursday's window, I suppose I may need to give them a new Tday-zero. ;D
