WELL a big big thumbs down..........on SpaceX launching on Thanksgiving Thursday. This is the first launch I will miss and no lucky SpaceX mug to boot.  Oh well, I will be 50 miles from my home at my brother in laws house with no way to watch. That's what I get for having a dumb phone with no internet.

Bring laptop, pretend to get sick, go disappear for half an hour. :) Also, you can follow twitter updates from a dumb phone.

We eat in the early afternoon, kind of a late lunch, early dinner, because of people driving.  So, the time will work for me to bring the laptop and let the extended family watch with me.  Maybe I'll be able to create some new space-x fans along the way!

Well, that was interesting.  I was at work all day.  I normally leave at 5:30 and it takes about 20 minutes to get home, depending on traffic.  So with the original launch time of 5:37, I had to stay after work in order to watch it.  I was checking in here on and off for updates.

First came the hold at T-13:00.  I didn't know how long the hold would last, so I stayed put.  When the first abort call was made at T-6:11, I thought that might be it for the day because they were talking about safing the vehicle and so forth.  I waited a few minutes, then shut down the computer and drove home.

When I got home, I raced past the cats who were naturally expecting to be fed the minute I got in the door and ran upstairs to turn on the computer.  The clock was at T-14:00 and counting.  Good!  That gave me time to feed the cats and get a drink.  Then came the abort at T-3:40.

Since I don't have relatives to visit, out of purely selfish motives I'd prefer an attempt on Thanksgiving, since I'm off work that day and won't have to go through the contortions outlined above.

Got called away by the wife to cook, I miss anything?

btw. By peeking at the countdown I was able to determine it takes the mill 2 minutes 31 seconds to reduce 1 lbs. of wheat berries to flour!

At least Thursday will be easier while waiting for the Peking duck to cook.

Woo hoo! More drinking time!

Warning: do not attempt to drink continuously until the next launch attempt.

The drinking will continue until the morale improves.  Or, Cocoa Beach, a quaint little drinking town with a launching problem!

During the launch webcast SpaceX treated us to a vid claiming the company was going to reduce launch processing on the pad from 9 days to 1 day, or something to that affect - my attention was split at the time so maybe someone might correct me on the details. When this prideful boast came across the web I thought, Why does SpaceX jinx itself like that?

It's called confidence and ambition. Ambitious companies don't worry about superstitions, or about appearing overconfident - they just go all out and try to achieve.

And as we saw today, SpaceX can do that and yet still respond safely when things don't go perfectly.

I believe the statement was that time between roll out and launch would be reduced to one hour from the 6.5 (?) it currently takes.

Because they aren't superstitious fools?

New Launch vehicle and new pad, things can go wrong. I still am bothered by the amount of venting. I did not see that on the first test launch and I'm still not sure it's all about humidity and wind conditions.

Well...it is what it is. It's a tough business. They'll get there. And it will be thrilling.

Anyways...Ironic to fly a Falcon on the day of the Turkey. (Millennium or otherwise)
At least now I have something to look forward to watching on Thanksgiving as opposed to 10 hours of just football.

Come on guys.  We're all on the same team here. Ultimately, we all want to celebrate a successful launch.

ITT: Defendants saying SpaceX doesn't believe in superstition (as of today)
Your honours, the prosecution would like to present exhibit A: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/404755031037317120

EDIT: And this was a tweet on the 24th of November.... so the defendants are either guilty of negligence, and speaking without being properly informed, or are guilty of perjury.. :P

But alright, let's drop it.

Come on guys.  We're all on the same team here. Ultimately, we all want to celebrate a successful launch.

I think I've sorted it out.

This is the deal. It's a party thread. It keeps everything from chatter to mindless happy clapping all out of the main threads. It's allowed.

Anyone who has a problem with SpaceX group hugs, just don't come to this party. It's full of people with SpaceX party hats on and anyone who turns up complaining will get frowned at.

Now when things get stressful, just sit back, have a few drinks, turn this on full blast and embrace the madness! (This video is probably the closest thing to what it's like to moderate this place sometimes! ;D)
