Congrats SpaceX on another amazing and seemingly perfectly executed launch AND landing!
Keep up the amazing work you are doing! Can't wait to see the first CRS on a re-used core, FH Demo flying and many other bold moves into the future!

Where was that video shot from? Looks like a great place to watch a landing.

Where was that video shot from? Looks like a great place to watch a landing.

The sonic boom arrives 11 or 12 seconds before landing.
This is MUCH earlier than what was experienced at OSB-II, which is 10.5 miles (~55 kft)
12 seconds is ~14 kft, and if there was a 5 sec delay at the OSB-11 (just guessing) that makes it ~20 kft closer for a distance of ~35 kft or ~6 miles
Jetty park is ~ 5 miles from LC-1.  Rt-401 is about 6.5 miles.
For those that have watched, which does it look like?
What kind of wastrels would dump a perfectly good booster in the ocean after just one use?

One of the payloads being carried inside SpX-12 is Cuberider 2 from Australia. Our media probably went a little overboard on the importance of this payload!

The commercial SpaceX rocket, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, launched from NASA's Cape Canaveral base in Florida today, and on board were a series of experiments devised by Australian school students."

LC-37 is twice as far from LZ-1 as the USAF station is... over 4 miles away.

I regret that I have but one Like to give to this video. Utterly fantastic tracking job! I watched the final burn through landing half a dozen times!

At 6:17 of the video, there was a little fire from the central engine for about 3 seconds. That was between the reentry burn and landing burn.

I believe that is just them running LOX through the engines for chilldown or to help avoid FOD.  Hot soot + LOX = Flames

Great footage during descent!  Check out the brief appearance of the vapor cone / Prandtl-Glauert singularity at the 6m45s point, and how it immediately collapses upon engine ignition.

PSA #1: Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four char) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or to avoid bloat.

Thanks guys!  That was my video, I guess I should post future videos to the forum as well.  I'm still working on improving the setup, including a proper scaffolding around my table to keep glare off my monitors and some improvements to the intelligence of the tracking algorithms.  I also plan to distribute the tracking software in the near future for anyone with a similar telescope.

HPE supercomputer is still crunching numbers in space after 340 days

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/07/26/hpe_iss_supercomputer/
You want to be inspired by things. You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great. That's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and believing the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than being out there among the stars.
