Not sure if we have a global party thread here so this is the most appropriate place I could find for expressing my happines about the below

Recently changed projects at work (not space related) and we got some new people in for it. Turns out two of the new guys are real proper (ex)rocket scientists.
Had a good chat with one of them and he's also a huge SpaceX fan! Looking forward to many more discusions and info dumps from him (though not sure how much he'll be able to divulge about his primary speciality - GNC of Russian ICBMs).

Haven't had a chance to talk to the other guy but his CV says something about a long stint in Baikonur.

I want set of wing back chairs lol... I wonder if Shotwell likes Cigars wouldn't look out of place setting in one of those lol.....

Wing back chairs are awesome if you have an open fire and it's a bit drafty, doubly so if the fire is RP-1 and LOX.

Since Apollo 7 was 49 years ago, I took some photos of my models of both rockets.  They are 1/144 scale.
Where did you get the Falcon 9 model from, if I may ask.

Ugg, brain and fingers don't always synchronize.
Some call it "dyslexia of the fingers"...
Following the space program since before Apollo 8.

In the construction and mechanical trades, sometimes the hammer one has in one's hand isn't producing the desired result, and a bigger hammer is needed. In those trades, the larger hammer is commonly referred to as a "BFH." And the F there does not mean Falcon.
Many video games, especially first-person shooters (like Doom and Quake), have a huge, powerful gun called a "BFG".  Here too, the meaning of the "F" is pretty clear.

And, of course, there is the slang expression "BFD", short for the sarcastic phrase "Big F...... Deal".

More generally, the construction "Big F....... something" is pretty common in popular culture.  So I think it's clear that Elon is just being cheeky calling his rocket the BFR.

I still don't get it.  Can someone please explain the joke yet again?

Edit/Lar: No. No more on this.

Mostly scratch built with plastic tubes and 3D printed parts (legs, grid fins, engines fairing) from Shapeways.

From the magical mystery thread:
I think that's enough random meanings for the word Zuma.

Well, of course, that's enough random meanings for the word Zuma.  It was a typo.  The payload is actually Zima.  I saw it recently as a "limited edition" release, and apparently it sold *really* well.  They're obviously going to do a product *launch* to announce it's back permanently.

Yep, Space Zima is the mystery payload.  (Sorry, Elon, now you're *really* going to have to come up with something properly absurd for FH.)

I thought it might somehow be a reference to Montezuma.  As opposed to the more usual Monty Python references we get from Elon.

Must be this guy: http://paw-patrol.wikia.com/wiki/Zuma

NRO hasn't yet returned Spike the Lizard from space back to his family.  He's been up there over 1 year! (NROL-61)
:(

If the eagle mascot for NROL-52 isn't on a rescue mission, then maybe this rescue dog is?  8)

(I read the link content; this character, unfortunately, isn't used as often as his rescue buddies.  He seems to be the Aquaman of Paw Patrol.  Maybe that's why he's free to accept a space rescue mission.)

I remember some episode of Babylon 5 had a bar in the Zocalo with a "Zima" sign.  A little JMS humor there.

Actually, the idea of Zima lasting even into 1995 is hysterical. I
keep fighting the urge to have some guy show up on B5, "Zo then I zays to
him, nize ztation"...and five Narns just jump on him and beat the shit
out of him, WHAMWHAMWHAMWHAMWHAM!

Hehe, it had dropped out of my mind that the Narn Bat Squad running gag originated with a Zima joke.  ;D  (I blame it on the fact it was over 23 years ago and I was just on my way to college... wow.)
