Hi Ron,

the refurbishment was a good idea, now your Saturn V 500F looks like a new model.

But what's going on with your Launch tower, which is standing there so lonely and abandoned, that one would have to have compassion with him?

This also looks like a long-term project ...

I am saving that tower for a future SpaceX project, once we see what they do at 39A.  I have two kits with tower parts that someday will be an Apollo LUT.

The wise man makes provision for the future!

Yep, it is better to have it than one would have ...

A new space project from the early days of space flight. This will be a model of the Atlas launched for Project SCORE (Signal Communications by Orbiting Relay Equipment). It was launched on December 18, 1958 and surprised the world by broadcasting the voice of President Eisenhower to the world. At the time, it was the largest object ever orbited and was considered to be the first communications satellite. I started with the Horizon Models Atlas kit.  I found some photos and a few line drawings showing the sustainer stage I needed to build.  I also needed to make the pointed "hot rod" nosecone and modified the side pod on one side so they were of equal length.

I had to build up the sustainer engine and modify the booster so I could remove it.  Then I detailed the engine with wires and pipes.   The model has been primed and I will start painting it soon.

I finished up the Atlas SCORE.  I finished it with bare metal foil.  The 10B decals were made from kit decals, combining a "D" and an "8".

Well thanks!  That is awesome of you to say.  I am glad I have L2 here to help with the research.  It was the best place to find photos of the actual 10B Atlas.

You have nothing to apologize for Mike, you've created enough masterpieces of your own! Rest on you laurels for a bit... :)

Well, looking at what you have built, I would need 20 more years to catch up!!

You can't even compare them.  Paper is so different, and I can not even come close to the awesome models you have made when I tried paper!!

And you don't have to worry about paint fumes making you ill!!

Thanks Ron.  Your's have a certain quality, especially when you make them look so good, but can disassemble them to represent different flight stages.  And your photography is great.

I built a second Hasegawa Voyager spacecraft model.  This time I used the LVM brass booms for it.  It is an amazing improvement!!

My first kit has been broken up into dish and bus to make a Magellan model.

To follow up my Voyager model, I built the Realspace kit of the Titan IIIE. I hope to build the Cassini Titan IV soon.  It is next to the earlier Titan IIIC MOL kit.

I am finished with my Pioneer 10 model. A 1/24 scale resin kit by Realspace Models. I remember the excitement I felt as a kid when Pioneer 10 and 11 were launched. It boggled my young mind when I tried to visualize their journey to the planets. And beyond.

The kit has a lot of brass rod and tube to contend with.  It was a challenge but fun!  Orange and silver foil cover the bus and I added cables to the big boom.

It will look good next to my plaque replica.

Every year, Horizon Models has a contest for their customers.  The Horizon Models Space Pioneers contest.  This year, I entered my Project SCORE Atlas and Mercury Redstone with umbilicals.  And I was one of the three winners.  I will receive each of their current kits and one of their new releases this year.  I know they are release a Jupiter-C with Explorer 1 soon.  So, more models to build.
