Starship surprise at art auction event
« on: 09/19/2025 02:25 am »
Last weekend my wife and I were are a ritzy fundraiser for an arts organization.  The event was in the top floor of an Atlanta high-rise, and was in the form of a silent auction, where artists donate works and we "silently" bid on them via some mechanism (paper log by artwork, online web app, whatever) and at the end of the evening someone "wins" each piece.  Purchase proceeds then go to the org.

So I'm wandering around, looking at all the weird art stuff, say 200 pieces, when an EXTREMELY familar silhouette appears.  Wait, what?!  I know that thing!  Then around the corner, another one.  And another!  Aha!  There's an artist here who's as obsessed with this stuff as I am :)

If you're curious, the artist's name is Jason Koffke and I'm not shilling for him.  I was just really stunned to see it.  Like, here I am, out on the town NOT keeping up with Starship activities, and go---mn it all if it isn't following me!  (That link I provided goes to another one of his pieces, looking like a Gemini EVA scene; click the tiny right arrow to see more.  Clearly they are pencil / graphite sketches of actual space photography.)

(I don't know why the photos aren't rotated properly -- old forum software I guess.  If you click on them, two of the three then show up properly rotated.)

PSA #1: Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four char) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or to avoid bloat.
PSA #2:  Use Google's "site:" operator to quickly find threads on NSF; google those three words for guidance  *** two more tips in profile ***
