This is not Andor, but this guy is really talented. I'd love to see some of his stuff incorporated into the shows.https://youtube.com/watch?v=YKeE_sK57k0
It will never be this good again, will it?
Quote from: catdlr on 10/15/2025 02:19 amIt will never be this good again, will it?I suspect not. My guess is that Disney lost a lot of money on this. They probably all recognize how great it is, but then they go to a board meeting an people say "Emmies and warm feelings don't make shareholders happy, profits do." It was a pretty amazing achievement, and someday somebody will write an honest book about the efforts to get it made. But I think it will always be considered a high point for Star Wars, the point where it transcended its own limitations and became something much more than it was.
Agree. A High Point that Disney wasn't and didn't plan for and expect to happen. I hope they learn from it.

They must have seen the scripts and Gilroy's plans ahead of time, and they must have been impressed and they bought in on it. They gave him a lot of money. So they expected great storytelling and directing and they got it. What they also hoped for was that it would pay off with big ratings, and they probably wanted a lot more awards than it got (I think it got robbed of several key awards). But I'm also not sure that there is anything for them to learn from this. They could learn the wrong lesson--that sophisticated, adult, well-written Star Wars doesn't make money. But they've been floundering for a long time, trying to find gold with that franchise. And they are clearly out of ideas, which is why the next movie is an adaptation of a TV show. I don't want to rag on Disney about this, because so much of the online discourse about Disney and Star Wars is really shallow and stupid. But it's clear that they have been unable to produce better, and better-performing, Star Wars movies for a long time now. That's proof that this is really difficult to do.
Yep, and I agree with you on all that, too. Especially your last two sentences. SAD.

SAD.I listen to a lot of different movie podcasts, including discussions of movies that didn't get made. When you hear about projects like "Logan's Run," it's hard to understand how a story that seems so simple doesn't get remade. The answer is that it's not simple. Making a movie, or a TV show, is really hard. Making one that is very good is much harder. That's why they're so rare.
