Jun 22, 2024Bit of a different video, trying some new stuff! Thank you so much to NASA Ames for letting us tour the facility, and for putting up with that thing I did in their wind tunnel.
Aug 27, 2024Making solid rocket motors is dangerous. It has killed people before and it can kill you too. Please find an experienced mentor in-person to help you get started - they'll teach you all the things a YouTube video can't. Join the NAR/TRA, go to a local launch, start asking around about building an experimental rocket motor. While the NAR doesn't allow flights of experimental motors, it is still filled with members who likely know someone who can help. TRA does allow experimental motors, and you'll probably have more luck there.

What's up pals, happy No Effort November. Today I'm breaking open a bunch of GoPro HERO10 Bones cameras so they can fit into the upcoming Meat Rocket. If you wanna support my quest to get unreasonably high quality in-flight footage:
I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT THIS: putting a mirror on the outside of a rocket IS another option, but it ends up cutting into the camera's field of view really hard, so I'm not a fan. To get the same FOV as having the sensor outside, you'd need a larger mirror which would add to overall drag more than the sensor itself. Anyway - lots of ways to solve the camera problem!

The High Steaks video is a superb bit of entertainment. Really well made

Simplex V2 is the second largest rocket motor I’ve made - my goal was to ensure that Risky Batman (the propellant) burned consistently at a large scale and Mystery Goo (the liner) eroded slow enough to work in the full spaceshot motor
The AGARD-B model is the gold standard for wind tunnel calibration, and it’s had the same shape since the ’60s. I don’t have a wind tunnel (yet), but I do like verifying my CFD data.
