NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo is back for the inaugural launch and landing of the long awaited Block 5 booster carrying Bangabandhu-1 !
OCISLY has been waiting at sea, and the rest of the fleet has set sail from Port Canaveral to catch the first landing of the brand new Falcon 9 Block 5 booster. Sporting titanium fins, new shapely legs and a sexy black and white color scheme along with a host of other reusability related upgrades, the definitive (until the next upgrade a few flights from now ;) ) SpaceX booster is ready to make its first of potentially many visits to the ASDS. Is it going to be a bullseye as the booster gently Kiss Kisses the deck of OCISLY or go Bang Bang the way of the FH core? Once again the game is afoot!
No shotgun start, the game is immediately open!
The game remains exactly as played in prior iterations. If its not broke don't fix it. :)

Pick your square, one per player. Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize!
This includes post landing walkabouts!
No prize for fireballs, debris, or damage on deck!
If it hits the ship, goes kaboom, punctures holes in the deck, falls over in transit, there is no winner. Only a booster standing tall and triumphant as the ASDS sails into the harbor will generate a win!
Water squares are meaningless this go around - if it falls in the sea, no winners - no prize
This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid.
Use Dan's scraper to see which spots have gone:
http://asds.dansdoorway.com
NOTE: There may sometimes be a slight delay of a few minutes at most between scraper updates, so check the last few posts before yours too, just to be sure. Scraper is operational as of this edit. Thanks to DanielW for setting the scraper up, it helps a lot!
Judging is by me, Helodriver using imagery of OCISLY sailing back into the harbor to help determine a winner. Rocketcams, helicopter or drone shots, and landing coverage will also be used, but where it sits at the time of unloading will be final.
Winner gets a SpaceX artifact, which has been recycled from its original purpose into a suitable prize. Winner also gets a one year L2 membership for free, courtesy of Mr. NSF himself, Chris Bergin. If a current L2 member, you can donate it to another member (or add it to your own term length).
The winner will also get a signed high detail SpaceX rocket picture from Spacecoaster Images taken by me, suitable for framing.
Good luck SpaceX, good luck Bangabandhu-1, and good luck to NSF readers!

Both your posts are edited, so they are not valid entries and are automatically ignored by the scraper. This gets some people every time. I suppose it's easy to skim over the relevant info in the opening post of each bingo thread:
This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid.
Just choose a square that's still available, and be sure not to edit the post.

I admit, I selected a square with some trepidation. I really only did so when I saw the remaining squares were on or outside of the yellow circle.
The problem is, every time we've done one of these and I've gotten a square inside the yellow circle, the booster has failed to land successfully on the ASDS.
My best selection -- when I happened to be online right when the bingo game opened and I had one of the first picks -- was right in the center.
For AMOS 6.
So, like I say... some small amount of trepidation, here...

NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo is back for the inaugural launch and landing of the long awaited Block 5 booster carrying Bangabandhu-1 !
Hi Driver....these two "rules" appear to be in conflict.....
1)"Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize"!
2) "where it sits at the time of unloading will be final".
So if "walkabouts" count maybe that first statement should be eliminated??

The second rule merely clarifies when "comes to a halt" is evaluated. Generally, the stage remains fixed in the reference frame of the ASDS after touchdown, but the second rule exists in order to cover the occasional stage out for a nice stroll around the ASDS.

Any edit by ANYONE invalidates your pick. So don't annoy the mods or they may edit your post just bcos... (Kidding, that would be really mean and also hard to hide.. what an uproar that would cause)
ALSO: Protip --- posting your pick on the Facebook thread has absolutely no effect here. In case you were wondering. the thread got 30+ picks anyway... (before it was mercy-killed)

NX-0 is asking about where the previous winning squares were in past landing games, not which squares have already been taken on this game board--which is what Dan's scraper shows.

Thanks :S I noticed that after posting... But of course editing is locked!! and I was too lazy to delete and re-post!
-
The obvious reason for the late abort is that the go/no-go poll included a new automated query to the landing poll, which indicated it needed 24 hours to complete. Hence... abort.

Landed near K-11!
Seas are calm.
Odd are we have a winner (who is not me).
-
My eye-ball is J-18 region ... not me either. :P
-
I think that the booster landed near I-20.
Just a guess.
-
There will be a winner! Looking for a high angle shot coming back into port, as the rocketcam was on the fritz for touchdown.
Definitey to the "upper" side of the circle, looking slightly "left" of center though.
Making it look easy when its anything but!
-
Doesn't matter where it is now... it's where it is when it comes back into port, remember?
-
Doesn't matter where it is now... it's where it is when it comes back into port, remember?
With the octograbber in action, it's unlikely it will move much.

Dear fellas on the barge,
Nudge it over to J-22 and I will end you 5 dozen of my daughter's regionally famous sugar cookies.
Thank in advance,

Not funny, I just thought...
What happens if SpaceX really starts pushing the stage as part of octograbber operations.
It would be kinda a downer if every landed stage ends up in the exact same spot (perfectly centered on the barge for safety reasons) every time she sails into port.
We wouldn't be able to tell anymore where she landed, there's only 2 options. "Post landing secure position" or "not landed"
of course there'd still be variability in where she touches down, but we would have to change the rules of landing bingo and rely on difficult to conduct analyisis of landing photography.
I think it can be done, if the circles are present and we know the fish-eye correction of the camera lens, you can calculate the relative position to the circle center - and from that the square - if at least 3 leg tips are in the image frame.
But we better have that program ready by the time SpaceX starts doing this.
That would keep the Bingo alive at least until they start landing on the cradle tests.
-
In that case the group just starts asking Elon on twitter where it landed. I'm sure he will respond ;)
-
The first time BFS lands on Mars, there won't be any human constructed reference point for Bingo. But I guess we could use photos of craters.
-

Maybe. Maybe not.
In "Halfway Home" by Hugh Howey, there are robots that do the prep work. (Very little else of that story would apply)
I am sure BFR Mars will be very accurate.
-
Enough of this nonsense. It landed on J-20. Where do I turn in my ticket?
::) ;D
-
Not funny, I just thought...

I doubt very much that octograbber is powerful enough to move even an empty stage...
-
Electric-drive tracks. Tethered, So plenty of power to run the motors. No need for high speed so it can be geared way down. Motors are probably big enough for slow movement as-is anyways - Some guesstimates had the weight of the thing around as much as the booster itself.
Big questions are do the tracks have enough traction and can the extended grabber arms handle the high side loads.
Not saying they mean to, But it might be able to.
-
Going to have to hurry to get the winning location... Lifting off barge looks imminent.
-
In a surprising turn of events, the booster appears to have taken off again.

With careful analysis of the available photographic images of the B5 booster's return aboard OCISLY a bingo winner has been determined!
After allowing a few days for rocketcam video to be released that was lost during the live broadcast (it wasn't) and for some high angle helicopter or drone shots to emerge of the ASDS pulling into port, (none did) still images of the booster landing and a perfect side on shot of the booster standing on deck as it sailed in were used to determine the landing spot.
Given that B5s look like they will be offloaded quickly versus spending hours standing on deck and that the OctoGrabber is moved away quickly after crane lift, leaving no indications of where it was holding the booster, this method will likely become standard. Fortunately it seems fairly accurate.
So with no further ado, the winning spot was J-20 and the winner is Mark McCombs who picked the winning square 27 minutes after the game went live.
Congrats Mark on doing a Banga up job playing! PM me with a mailing address and a prize will be dispatched forthwith!
NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo Will Return.

With careful analysis of the available photographic images of the B5 booster's return aboard OCISLY a bongo winner has been determined!
Does that mean the Banga Bandhu bingo winner gets a bongo?
Now I really wish I had played...
-
There's only one thing I can say...
https://youtu.be/f5dMqHqC4pM
-
Aaaand graphic updated!
This is the furthest to the "left" by one column for OCISLY (and the first left of center), but still not the furthest over all as JRTI had one also in column 20. Also not the "highest" for either ASDS. However, it does break the trend for OCISLY of being mostly right of center.
Reminder: This only plots landings that we played a Bingo for and I am using the landing spots as determined by Helo. If anyone wants to try and determine the other landings, I'd be happy to make another graphic combining the two sets.
-
Missed it by so close!
Congrats to the winner though! :) :D
-
Congrats Mark! Already a L2 member, but I'll sort you out ;D
-
Quick question (I asked Helodriver in a PM but he has not responded): How does Helodriver get these 'artifacts'? Is he a SpaceX employee or just knows one or something else? Also, why is the item offered as the prize not described or shown, ever? Seems odd to not know what you are trying to win.
Apologies if this was answered earlier somewhere (I did look at a couple past bingo threads); please point me to the relevant post if so.
Looking forward to the next launch/Bingo!
