Forum Outage Today (17 March 2025)?
« on: 03/17/2025 10:40 am »
Is anyone else having issues accessing the forums today?

I've had some instances of "Database Error" screens coming up, which resolve after a minute or 3
The a couple of Cloudflare screens purporting to show that Browser and CF are working, but there is a site error........

Seems to be intermittent....

If you see any cloudflare issue, please copy the ID of the error, it'll be on the screen and you can copy and paste it. Thanks!

I thought this was usual. Since I'm up all night around midnight, I start seeing these and take a break, thinking they are just recycling the systems.  I just got on and getting them now sporadically, and it is 4:45 a.m. PT

Yeah, that's not the useful part, Tony. The ID number is on the bottom.

Like Cloudflare Ray ID: 921c46368881b37b

Mark sees it and working the issue.

It's also slow; while the screen delivery is quick, the response is sporadic, and waiting a few seconds feels problematic. I try to get that ID number when I see the screen again.

It's getting fast now, but between your post to me and my repose back, I got 5 Bad Gateway errors.

OK, it looks great now. Rapid response, no hesitations, and no gateway errors after 20 post-reads. I think it's okay now.

Additional fix running. You will all likely need to log back into the forum.

For future reference, what is the best way to report site problems?

I started this thread and then "reported" my own post to highlight the issue to mods....

This worked to be fair! I'd have gotten a notification on the existing forum thread:
https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=50827.0

But those are usually issues that usually tend to be very specific to the user, as opposed to a site issue. This was a site issue and thus this thread works. We also have the NSF member discord and I was informed there too, which is useful cause if the site had been fully down this thread couldn't have been created ;)

In this case, your thread caught my eye, informed Mark and he was on it in minutes :)

Let's continue to use this thread to monitor.

Mark is working another idea.

So mark this timestamp (anything before not relevant now, only issues after this post :) )

I'm no longer having issues after I reloaded and cleared all site specific data and cache. I'm also no longer getting the database errors that I recently PM'd Mark about that started a couple of days before the cloudflare incidents today. They suddenly seem to be resolved.

I just returned from running errands and read through all the unread queues without any issues; all of them (about 30 threads) returned with a quick response. However, I did log out and back in, as advised earlier.  Looks like Mark did hs magic.

Yeah, pretty confident Mark's got everything back to proper working order. We'll keep watching it though of course.

As always, people tend to be more on the lookout after the earlier issues, so don't expect hyper speed, always without issue forum. That happens any day of the week where it has a slight issue, but resolves itself. Today's was certainly a Mark-required fix, however.

As I mentioned earlier, since I am basically on 24/7, I notice this often happening at midnight, especially on Saturday evenings. I think it’s just server recycles, and they usually resolve in less than 2-3 minutes.  So, I didn't think twice about any significant issues.  Perhaps what Mark did today will resolve these too.

Ah yes, I caught that once, It's every day about 2-3 mins as you say, no error usually, just loading. I'm pretty sure it's the tiny people in the back of the servers who are doing a shift change ;)

Already did, but NSF folk don't generally respond there.
Since there was an ongoing issue talked about on this thread, it's relevant here too.

EDIT:
...  And... It's back!   Thanks to whoever fixed it.
