Could the Dream Chaser launch configuration be done better bottom to bottom as a pair than as a single locked into a fairing?

No.

a.  No need for two to fly
b.  The aft attachment is round, how do you propose to connect them to the rocket
c.  They will bang into each other during ascent.

Thanks for the comment Jim,

1 bring cargo and crew as a single launch.
2 Shooting star can be any shape required so D shaped is perfectly do able.
3 As for the banging into each other the yellow portion marked would be the filler and attachment point between each.

Of course the whole idea is a thought exercise since I have no ownership to speak of but it is interesting to me.
Ok with me if it is not interesting to you.

Sorry to reply to my own post here but I am still learning this.
I should mention the original thoughts that led me to this idea were
- You would not need to fold the wings making the vehicle easier to build
- Any crewed version must be able to safely abort which I hope would be more effective without the fairing.
