Another great view of Discovery and the ISS:

Which camera is this view (showing the orbiter nosecone & JLP) coming from?   ?OBSS?

correct

They are going to disable the backlight on the front panel display.  They need to remove the display, which means taking off the bottom cover, and removing a couple of switches that are in the way.  On the display board they will snip the lead of a resistor to create an open circuit - this will stop current flowing in the backlight.

Its lucky that the resistor in question is an "old school" leaded type (looks like it was a hand modification by the manufacturer) since the rest of the board is surface mount technology.  Trying to remove a surface mount resistor would have not been possible without specialist tools.

Tyvek? Sorry I'm not so familiar with the specific terms
but they looked flexible strips, not tiles or so.

Tyvek is a brand name of a cloth like material (think Fed Ex envelopes)

I wish those shots of DISCOVERY and the station from the OBSS were in color, they are amazing!

Agreed, it is fabulous to see all these modules shining in the sun, with the shuttle visiting and hard at work.

Kibo looks way smaller now as it's being outfitted...

I don't understand how a LED display can draw enough power to generate heat...

Agreed!!!  If his camera didn't break, Scott Parazynski could have taken some of the most iconic shots of the STS program during that last EVA during 120.  Too bad COL Garan's view will be blocked Sunday, he'd have about the same view.

I agree it is lucky they could just snip a wire.

Actually, removing SMT components like resistors is not too hard, although it does require a steady hand and a fine tipped soldering iron.   (Do they have a soldering iron on station?  That'd be fun...)   But in general, you are right - for anything more complicated, you really do need a specialized heat gun.

Marcia Dunn asking how Kibo feels, smells, and all the likes.

Mark: Doesn't have a new car smell, but you can get stranded for a while if you can't reach a handrail!

More toilet questions....  ugh.

Dunn: How did it feel to have a broken toilet until this week?

Volkov: We were ready, we didn't expect it, but we expect the unexpected.  Discovery fixed us with some parts.

Dunn: How did it feel to come to the rescue, Mark, to come as a plumber?

Mark: We weren't coming to the rescue, Marcia, they could live with it for a while..  When we arrived on FD-3, we didn't take the parts out of the bag until FD-5.  It wasn't a dire situation.

It's glowing too bright, causing heat to radiate off of it.  It's not much heat, but it's enough to require work.
