Experiment racks for the first german spacelab mission D1 were put into a transport container at MBB-Erno in Bremen and sent to KSC. Here they were integrated into the spacelab module.

Challenger reached launch pad 39A on October 16, 1985. While Challenger was prepared for her ninth mission, Christa McAuliffe and Barbara Morgan inspected her out there at the pad - in preparation for the orbiter's tenth launch...

PAO: T-10, we are go for main engine start. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... we have ignition and lift-off. Lift-off of Challenger on the Spacelab D1 mission, and the shuttle has cleared the tower.
