Looks amazing, with pretty good CGI. I'm quite sure Voskhod never, ever had any movie done on it. When you think about it there are plenty of Vostok / Voskhod / Soyuz missions that could make amazing movies. Soyuz 5 flaming return; Soyuz 18; Soyuz 23 at the bottom of Lake Tengiz; Soyuz T-10. and many others.

Indeed! What a great trailer :O

For context, this movie (Vremya Pervikh, First time -or "The time of the first ones" literally) is about Voskhod 2, the world's first spacewalk by the exceptional -and very active to this day- cosmonaut  Alexei Leonov, who had great trouble getting back to the airlock (the first expandable space structure) due to too much rigidity on his spacesuit, which prevented him from grabbing on to the tether.

Additionally, they made an off-nominal landing (386 km from the intended site, according to wiki) in a remote wild area with wolves, because they couldn't take their seats early enough during re-entry, coupled with the spacecraft's trouble disconnecting from the orbital module.

Definitely overdue for a feature movie :)

Wow, that was awesome! So google says the film has been directed by Yuri Bykov, and actor Evgeny Mironov is playing the role of the great Alexei Leonov. Can't wait until this comes out!

BTW - can anyone translate what's being said during this trailer? I tried using the CC button with english auto-translate, but the results were lousy.

I just really got what they said at launch (it's been a while since my Russian lessons :) ):

- "Moscow Speaks" trasmitting: Today, 18th of March 1965, man has gone into Outer Space.

RSC Energia: Presentation of the film Age of Pioneers

March 17, 2017

Today, on March 17, RSC Energia (which is a part of State Corporation Roscosmos) held a presentation of a few clips from the new feature film Age of Pioneers.

The movie Age of Pioneers is produced by Timur Bekmambetov and Yevgeni Mironov. This is a true story of the legendary mission of Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belayev, set against the backdrop of the space race between the two superpowers. The scientific consultant of the film was a chief specialist of RSC Energia Victor Blagov.

Among those who came to meet with the creative team that made the movie were journalists, famous cosmonauts, employees of the Corporation, veterans of the rocket and space industry, students and schoolchildren from aerospace class of the town of Korolev.

General Director of RSC Energia Vladimir Solntsev: “Judging by the clips, the movie turned out well. I think the entire country will be watching this movie. And I hope that space is going to become the force that brings people together. The space unites people and shows them the way”. “Judging by the clips, the movie turned out well. I think the entire country will be watching this movie. And I hope that space is going to become the force that brings people together. The space unites people and shows them the way”.

Pilot-cosmonaut of USSR Alexei Leonov: “My spacewalk was an event where the major role was played by the team of the company. It was here that all this began. It was here that I stood at a rally on March 27, 1965 and reported on the mission to your fathers and mothers."

Actor and producer Yevgeni Mironov who portrayed Leonov in the movie: “This is a serious film, a blockbuster. Taking part in its making were an enormous number of specialists both from Russia and abroad. And now, for the first time in the history of our country’s cinematography, a space movie was shot in 3D. It is important that young people see the film and got inspired by this heroic feat”.

The guests watched some fragments from the movie Age of Pioneers and visited the museum of Energia, which keeps the descent vehicle of Voskhod-2. It was in it that Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyaev on March 18, 1965 flew their legendary mission. Alexei Leonov became the first man to walk in space.

The Vokhod-2 spacecraft was launched at 10:00 Moscow Time from the Baikonur launch site, and at 11:47 the Soviet cosmonaut took a first step into the unknown. According to official reports the mission of Voskhod-2 went smoothly. However, the reality was different. In two days, there were seven failures onboard. And, according to Leonov, three or four of them were life threatening.

RSC Energia is the leader in the rocket and space industry, and the prime contractor for manned space systems. The Corporation conducts work on the development of unmanned space and rocket systems (launch vehicles and orbital transfer vehicles), and high-technology systems for various non-space applications. Since August 2014, the Corporation is headed by Vladimir Solntsev.

The more I see the general, the more he seems like the jolly and mischievous grandpa who slips his grandchildren sweets even though their parents disapprove.

However, from all accounts General of Cosmonauts Leonov is a far harder man. During the infamous Mir disaster, he apparently told the crew on the station (with the cabin depressurisation alarm shrieking and the station breaking down all around them due to low electrical power) to shut up, stop panicking and obey their orders. They obeyed; that's the kind of man he is!

The movie did poorly in its opening weekend. I don't totally understand what happened with the controversy, but it doesn't matter:

Hey guys! The movie is great! The technical level is very good. It's like you see the spaceflight from the capsule, seing all the tumblers etc. And also the story is really interesting, it will be interesting even to people who are not much about space.

Here (http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=80951930854230775986) you can download English subtitles to the movie. THe movie is in HD. You can try to search "Время первых HD" or something like that.

By the way, the fragment from the movie uloaded by the company:

The Russian film Spacewalk/Spacewalker can be found for pre-ordering on Amazon in the US, UK and Germany (the ones I checked) and can be watched on Amazon Prime right now. Make sure you buy for the right DVD Region! The official DVD release date is October 30.

Link to Amazon US below.

"March 1965. In the heat of the Cold War, the USA and the USSR are competing for supremacy in space. What both superpowers aim for in this race, is to be the first to have a man walk in outer space. To accomplish that, no price is too high and no risk is too great. Now it’s up to the unlikely duo of a seasoned war veteran and a hot-headed test-pilot to fulfill this mission. Two men in a tiny spaceship, without proper testing, facing the complete unknown…

They were supposed to do what no man has done before – and no man imagined what would happen next… "

Yes, see for example: http://www.spacefacts.de/mission/english/voskhod-2.htm

Although I remember reading the rescue footage was reenacted a short time after they were actually rescued and cared for.
