 Welcome to this week's SBTW!

Production Site
SN2 is finally getting scrapped! This week saw SN2, a structural test article from the 150m hop days, moved to the scrap yard, and we saw teams get to work on it.

Booster 16 had its FTS installed ahead of its first and final launch, Flight 10; it was then rolled out from the rocket garden 4 days later.

S37 saw a lot of work over the week; teams were all over it for days working on the TPS, after all, we don’t want it to burn up on reentry…. We later saw the transport stand moved into MB2, and S37 was lifted and placed on the stand. Teams later installed all 8 simlinks onto the ship and rolled it out to the launch site on Saturday.

Finally, for the production site, a BQD was delivered for Pad B! And work continues on the Gigabay.

Starbase This Week (2025-09-07) | Written by @Thousand_______

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night, wherever you are in the world, welcome to another Starbase This Week. Still riding the Flight 10 high and looking towards Flight 11 preparations, yes Flight 11 is coming fast. So buckle up and let's get going.

Build Site

The Build Site started off this week with the unloading of the PEZ box on Tuesday. SpaceX is planning to load the Starlink V3 satellites into Starship's PEZ dispenser. Currently, SpaceX uses a crane at the build site to lift the dumblinks one by one onto a tray mounted on the ship itself where the dumblinks are rolled into the ship PEZ dispenser.

The PEZ box allows Spacex to load the box full of satellites and put it next to the payload bay door so the box can dispense the satellites into the ship, just like how the ship deploys the satellites into space. The PEZ box also introduces a lot less FOD since the satellites are only exposed to the air when being transferred from the box to the ship, however this can also be mitigated by covering the outside part of the transfer.

There has been some talk in the community that SpaceX could use real starlink satellites to stream the deployment from a Starlink POV. However SpaceX needs an FCC communications licence to stream the video feed either back to earth or to the Starship which could relay the signal back to earth. As long as SpaceX does not have the licence it will be extremely unlikely to see a feed from either a dumblink with a camera or a real Starlink on flight 11.

A lot of cement trucks have come and gone this week to pour the concrete for the Gigabay. The foundation work is the longest part of construction work and has a long way to go before any other work on the Gigabay can begin.

Friday early morning the booster transport stand moved to MB1 to pick up B15-2. Earlier this week we have seen beach closures for testing, hinting to a booster static fire no earlier than Sunday. B15-2 was placed on to the transport stand and rolled outside the megabay for rollout to the Launch Site. But B15-2 wasn't the only one rolling out at that moment. The integrated hotstage ring and the common section of the test tank B18.3 rolled out of the starfactory to the ring yard. On Saturday, both sections moved to MB1 to be stacked for testing at Massey's.

S38 got static fired! Just kidding, it scrubbed twice. But from Starfactory came strange block 3 hardware? Welcome to this week’s Starbase This Week.

Build site

Lots of exciting things at the build site this week. B18.3, the booster fwd test article, left MB1 and rolled out to Massey's for its testing campaign and Gigabay foundation work continues.

B18 received new hardware this week as its aft section rolled out of Starfactory (SFC) and into MB1! This new aft section is designed to withstand the brute force of Raptor 3’s and it looks just like the renders - except it's not painted yet.

What is that? A strange tank was moved out of SFC and into MB1 and installed on the side of B18’s. The exact purpose of the tank is unknown. It is being theorized that this tank is being used for extra CH4 storage inside the booster. MB1 isn't high enough for a big enough CH4 tank. The booster is shorter because of that until the new gigabay comes online. In the meantime they make the Lox tank as big as the future boosters that will be made inside the gigabay and install an extra tank inside the Lox tank to give the booster enough CH4. This way Spacex reduces the amount of tooling needed to change for the gigabay boosters.

Besides the wonderful block 3 hardware the 2 point lifter (2PL) and the ship transport stand was moved into MB2, so that S38 could be transported to the launch site for its static fire testing campaign.

Finally a hot staging ring (HSR) was rolled into MB1 and installed on B15.

That’s all for this week. Will B18.3 survive its testing? Will S38 successfully complete its static fire testing campaign? When do you think the first flight from Florida will be?

B-15.2 was moved out to the rocket just before sunrise, and now the B12 transport ring has been moved into MB-1.  Perhaps it too will be transferred to the Rocket Garden.  That leaves B18 (under construction) remaining in MB-1.

The expected completion date for the GIGABay is September 2026, based on the FAA license.

The Starbase GigaBay tower crane construction reached new heights as the cab was lifted onto one of the towers and the turntable already installed. Next up should be the lift and installation of the boom/jib and trolley system.

Attempting to run some numbers on what it will take to get to 1,000 ships a year.  Absolutely do not use any of these figures as gospel or truth to production but simply rough figuring.  If Spacex has roughly 2.8m sq ft of manufacturing capacity and produced 2.3m cubic feet of pressurizable volume it is working at .83 PSIV/sq ft. For reference 2024 Boeing appears to have 13M sq ft and produced 112m cubic feet of pressurizable volume. So .54 PSIV/sq ft.  (I'd argue more effort goes into a cubic foot of Boeing pressurized space than a rocket fuel tank so that checks out to me.)

This would put Spacex at requiring somewhere between 37-135 million square feet of manufacturing to produce 1,000 ships a year.
37M if they get to 3 PSIV/sq ft.
135M if they stay at .83.

Do we expect to see Spacex footprint grow >12x?

Starbase This Week (2025-12-07) | Written by
@Space_Mr_Banana

Full steam ahead on Booster 19, B18 remains removed from Massey’s and Block 3 ship finally starts testing. All that and more in this week’s Starbase this Week!

Production Site

Starting where all Starships begin, at the production site, more sections of B19 were rolled out of Starfactory (SFC) and into MegaBay 1 (MB1) adding the A5:4, A6:4, part of the transfer tube and the rest of the transfer tube to the booster. That leaves us with only 4 more sections left to roll out for B19: The hotstage ring (HSR-FX:3), F2:4, F3:4 and the aft thrust section (AX:2).

With creation there must be destruction, some remains of B18 were lifted off the thrust sim stand and rolled from Massey’s to the Production Site for scrapping this week. It is highly unlikely that any part of B18 will be recycled and reused on future Boosters as most parts will have been damaged in the explosion.

Block 3 Ship production is progressing with Nose cone movements inside of SFC:

Ship 40, the second Block 3, shifted back over from Cell M to Cell L - opposite from last week
S41, now with both of its fwd flaps is in Cell Q, likely receiving finishes to its TPS
S46 has received its Methane header tank
And a new Nosecone was spotted, S48.
Hopefully soon Ship 40 will be rolled out to MB2 to join its older sister S39 as the second Block 3 ship to get stacked.

Massey’s

The Block 3 ship test tank, S39.1 or TT18 is finally getting tested! After being moved over to the cryo station on December 1st, S39.1 began its first test on the 3rd, curiously this test was aborted but thankfully did not lead to another B18. S39.1 has now completed its 2nd and 3rd tests on the 4th and 5th respectively.

Launch Site

Not a lot to talk about at the Launch Site this week but more testing at Pad B has been taking place with another deluge test on the 5th and curiously both chopstick actuators were removed from Pad B.

SpaceX also released a video on X of a full 6 minute and 40 second verification test of a sea level Raptor 3 engine, this was a test of a Ship Raptor, hopefully soon we start to see more Raptor vacuum engines as right now we have only seen one. But that’s all for this week! How long until S39 rolls to Massey’s? And when will B19 be ready for testing?
