Finally! ;D
http://www.cafepress.com/nasasf
This is the opening version, the most requested, with our site logo as the basis for an array of merchandise that allows YOU bragging rights in the office, or the ability to go to launches and portray to people within eye shot "that's right, I take my space flight seriously!" ;D
We've kept the mark up low end as this is more about making this available as a lot of people have wanted it, not least myself! We'll make a bit of cash towards feeding the server hamsters, but L2 is far and away the most important way to support the site.
We've gone with a template merchandise provider to ensure shipping and any returns are dealt with professionally.
We'll add to it over time, with unique designs/items.
-
Looks great Chris! :) Maybe some space desktop models in the future?
-
I've just spent all my pocket money on a load of stuff! ;D So if anyone wants to wait and hear from me on what the quality is like, hold fire and I'll let you know when Mr. Postman frowns at me for all the packages he's having to bring! ;D
Looks great Chris! :) Maybe some space desktop models in the future?
There are companies that do that already. We want to provide things you can't get anywhere else, such as this opening salvo of NSF stuff.
-
The items ship from US, right? Was about to go bananas too but settled for a mug and a trucker hat to stay under VAT radar.
Would be nice to get stuff with custom print. "Capsules 4EVA!!!" mug or "I corrected Jim" shirt ;)
-
or "I corrected Jim" shirt ;)
OMG what a great idea!

Great to see to store open for business, Chris! There's a lot of good stuff in there.

Jim could retire on his own personal range of forum put down merchandise! ;D
Yeah, items ship from the US. I went with the cheapest option for my stuff, given I had spent all my money on goodies, and it said 4-8 days! Was pleasantly surprised. Looks like there was an international shipping option for three days!
Looked very fair for my shipping. I got a ton of stuff and it worked out as a buck per item shipping.
Would be interesting to see how fast it is inside the USA.
-

Unsubstantiated ;D

I want a black T-shirt with the NSF logo in the top-corner on the front, and on the back in big white letters, the words:
"MODERATOR"
"Use of delete key authorized".
;D

Cool! 8)

Chris,
Hope you accounted for the postman to charge you VAT (20%), customs duty, plus a PO fee for collecting the fees.
Cheers, Martin
-
I just googled for the german customs regulation, probably it is in the EU similiar. The relvant value is the sum of price + delivery:
<22 €: no charge
22...150 €: import sales tax (typically identical to the VAT)
>150 €: import sales tax + customs (textiles 12%)
But, to deal with customs is more tricky than rocket science ::)

I wondered why George Osborne was looking rather pleased with himself on the telly this morning! ;D
20 percent is no great shakes. A small price to pay to be able to go to the gym in NASASpaceFlight.com merchandise. My main problem will be dealing with the women* that will throwing themselves at me.
*Disclaimer: NASASpaceflight.com merchandise does not guarantee success with the ladies. ;)

Is the $14.95 S/H for an iPhone case the expected charge? I have never gotten anything from CafePress before, and wanted to make sure this is the correct value. (Guess I have been spoiled by Amazon free S/H.)

Maybe you need to proceed through checkout as it came up that price for me, half a world away!

It depends on which case you choose. I get varying shipping quotes from $6.50 to the $14.95 in the cases section, depending on which case I picked. I think that's rather high, but we have no control over the s/h charges. Additional items will add proportionally less to the shipping as you hit different weight tiers, but it's still a lot of money.
Not terribly helpful, but Cafepress's official answer is here:

Ya I want one of those too... :) All of this merch is screen printed I think so the NSF logo may not print well on black.

The T-shirts are 'direct-to-garment' printed onto the fabric... basically giant, specialized inkjet printers. Now how well light inks work on dark garments, especially after a few washings, I can't tell you.
A couple of the existing dark shirt designs use machine embroidered patches. And while that should be more durable, I can't tell you how it'll look until someone buys one and posts a picture.

I'll post some pics of my stuff, when it arrives next week. ;D

Oh that's Bob. I don't think he'll ever earn the "onaut" as he's a womanizer and a drunk! But he's cheap and we only have so much money to throw at servers! ;D

Yeah, I'll get a bunch of photos up when Mr. Postman buzzes my door.

Got the stuff today. The parcel shipped from Czech Republic, had a return address to Prague. Receipt inside the box had text "[VAT INCLUDED]" but there was no other VAT details in the prices at all. Would have been nice to know beforehand though, enjoying the EU free movement of goods instead of fearing customs and tax man.
The trucker hat was alright, logo colors a bit more pale than in the store picture, which actually makes them closer to what they are here in the actual site (at least on my screen).
The mug would have been great, but arrived in two pieces, entire bottom broken cleanly off :-\ Strange because it was packed very well in lots of bubble wrap and the box did not show signs of any obvious abuse. Shame, the print on it was excellent. Won't bother with returning, would probably cost me more than getting a new mug in next batch (there will be one unless the mug problem turns out endemic). Now where's my glue...
-
Sorry to hear about your mug, that's not on!
All my stuff has arrived now (intact and also from Prague, so that was handy as there's no tax, due to EU - so I bet all European orders come from there). I'll take photos later today.

Ooh, now that is good news. Explains the postage rates, too.
Advantage of going with a large player in the market - they have the infrastructure.
Cheers, Martin
-
Oh, they ship from Prague! That's great news, I won't have to bother my friends in the US. Ordering a mug tomorrow!
-
Ok here's my stuff.
Thoughts:
The Ipad mini cover is great. It's not just printed on, you can feel the logo, so it protrudes a bit. Love that.
Everything was very well wrapped, so it should arrive in good condition.
Clothing seems slightly larger. I got XL and I wonder if that's some American XL, as its was a bit big on me, but only slightly. And I'd rather have it a bit big than a bit tight! ;D
Sorry for the crap photos and lack of ironing! ;D

-
Looks good, I think I'll have to place an order.
I see you managed to get York City FC in there too! :D
-
Just got my first order today, and my wife says they look nice! Very glad for the 2xl size being available-I needed most of it!
-
Just seeing this now. I'll have to get an order in ASAP!
I'll have to look for people NASASPACELIGHT.COM at the launches. If I see you, I'll say Hi.
Thanks to all those who got the store up and running.

Merch. suggestion.
Perhaps a NSF.com patch? Similar is size to all the mission patches?

Only one size patch from the vendor (4x2), but it fits the logo well. Added to Mugs and Miscellany. I believe it is printed, rather than embroidered. Iron on adhesive, can also be sewn.

I'd expect the shirts to shrink a bit after laundering, assuming they're mostly cotton.

Thanks to a lot of work from numerous folk, we now have a great calendar on offer:

Thanks to all and NSF for putting this together. 8)

Definitely getting this. No puppies or kittens this year!

Just ordered mine also.
Would be good if we can slip the mention of this into some posts, how excited we are to have the calendar, the collaborative nature of it's creation, how it supports the site, etc.
Is there a credits page mentioning who created the images and who collaborated on the calendar creation even if it is just screen names?
I want to thank you all for working on this, my best favorite holiday present to myself.

*Loud Applause!!!!*
Yay!!! I ordered two! My dad is getting one as his Christmas present from me.
Thanks everyone who made my little side request a few weeks ago a reality. That was awesome!
Now about that 3D printed MCT model for my desk.....

Ordered! My biggest problem will be keeping my oldest daughter from stealing it from me.

I was wondering about that myself; I don't think nearly as many people read the site news as read the vendor specific areas. I think a number of the images are previously L2 only. I don't want to encourage off-topic posts, though; I suppose it's up to Chris.
Each image has a credit to the source printed on that page. The people who chose the images and did the layout (myself, dglow) didn't get credited; I didn't want to clutter the images too much, and the current vendor doesn't allow any text on the non-image pages.
I'm currently thinking we start designing the 2016 calendar in June or so, do preorders, and order from a proper printer where we can do a full-up custom design. There seemed to be some demand for a 'best of' for next year; it's going to be tough to choose 13 images.

Should be pretty fast too, as they ship from Europe to UK, as opposed to from the States, for the US.

Does NSF get a pretty decent cut of this? If so, count me in! I need a calendar and also would like to support NSF in a way that is justifiable to the wife. :)

I ordered two, and because the person I am giving the second one to, won't be back until Jan 5th, it doesn't matter if I get it after Christmas! LOL

Hello everybody!
Fist of all, let me say that the calendar looks AMAZING! Thanks to all the talented people that contributed to it... The collaborative nature of this forum (and L2) never stops to amaze me!
I'm with Bob regarding the idea of doing this every year. Indeed June 2015 seems like a good month to start thinking about a new calendar.
But we definitely should not restrict ourselves to a yearly calendar ... Specially if we are expecting to have more than 13 great images each year. For example, what do you guys think about creating posters for the NSF store? I'm pretty sure many people will love to get some of that... And those do not need to be updated every year!
Or... Well Let's think big! We could work towards a coffee table book combining these images and some in-house articles drawing from the discussions that are being held here on the website! There is and incredible amount of useful information and knowledge on this site a that could be combined in a single product...
Let me hear your thoughts on this. I was not very active in this project, but I will be happy to collaborate in the next one!
-
Really strange, when I want to pay with pay-pal, I am able to confirm, but seems Cafe-press is not linking the cost. So when I confirm Pay-Pal, I end up with comming back to Cafe-press and nothing has happened. ..... :-[

I've definitely got a number of things I want to do in the upcoming year, the main consideration if we're looking to do a collaborative book effort would be resolution. I typically do my renders around 3k or so horizontally, though I might look into doing high-dpi renders to some more resolution in there. The lower the resolution, the blockier it'll look in print!
-

A good question.
Literally only a few bucks mark up (I think the baseline was 14.99) and NSF won't be taking any of this calendar revenue.
The store was more about getting the option available to the readership, myself included - as you can see from the personal splurge in my photos! ;) Because we waited YEARS to get this store going, we opted for a small mark up, and that store wide revenue will be mainly going to the folks that got the store up, the design of the logo and the store maintained - and the contributors of unique stuff, such as above. That's only right.
We'll keep building the store, given the idea was the NSF logo stuff - now done, then start adding unique items, with the calendar being the first. We'll continue to build it, especially on the unique stuff (an effort we'll look to work a bit more during the holidays) and NSF may - one day - get a welcome bonus out of a filled up and busy store. Until then, I'm just loving the idea of getting calendars and such myself!
Remember, this is a site I started from scratch and now look at it. I'm the luckiest so and so on the planet per starting a site like this and for it to become popular. All I'm bothered about on the money side is making sure the hosting is paid. Being able to get a NSF mug for my coffee is a bonus! ;D
So this store is about creating the option and if we can give something back to those that made the store happen and grow, well that's a good thing in my book. Profits for NSF won't be a consideration until we have a big, busy store, as we've had to sell about $500 of store stock to beat the boost of a one year L2 subscription (I think, roughly)
[scratched record]So if anyone wants to directly support the site's running costs, L2 subscriptions are the way.[/scratched record]

okan170's images and sghill's request inspired me to pick up the project. We had talked about an NSF calendar before, but I hadn't actually sat down and assembled one. :) I will say it took a lot more time and effort to get it nice than I thought it would.
We've talked about adding posters and other items in the store; I've got a hidden section with a few test items based on some of my Antares launch photos. We need a decent collection of photos that are in the public domain or where we can get the rights before opening it up, IMO.
Or... Well Let's think big! We could work towards a coffee table book combining these images and some in-house articles drawing from the discussions that are being held here on the website! A coffee-table book, reasonably priced, sounds interesting; the problem is we'll need fairly high resolution imagery that we can get the rights to. 13 pictures meant getting permission from 2 or 3 people; a 50-100 page book... many more. I'm not sure how many people would buy one... could be a lot of work for something only a handful of people'd ever see.
I'd prioritize posters... the work per item is much lower, and price should be more reasonable.

Thanks for the answer grythumn! I'm happy to hear posters are on the way. I agree that they should be the priority and are easier to do... I'll definitely buy some once they become available.
Your comments regarding the book are also very reasonable. Maybe we don't have enough material yet, but it would be something to keep in mind for the future.

Very nicely done.

Very nice! People are welcome to post photos of their items once they have them in hand.

I got my two calenders! They will look good next to my model Falcon Heavy!
-
Mine turned up too! Really well packed and the quality is wonderful! Really happy with how that's all turned out!
The scarf is for...errr...scale! ;D
-
They are brilliant! Looking forward to next year's already.
Mine takes pride of place on my wall below a selection of Crystal Palace paraphernalia. I would take a picture as above but Chris might get jealous about respective league positions - I'll leave you all to imagine it sitting there...

Good day.
I just wanted to mention that on this page
http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/index.aspx?page=shipping.aspx#1
I am able to select the UK, US, International, Germany, Austrailia, but I am unable to select my own country Canada.
Is this an issue on my end, or are their others that could verify?
Thank you in advance.

Box or APO/FPO address, to Hawaii, Alaska, or other international destinations and issues with payment verification, shipping address, designs, or media may all delay delivery of your order.

I can click on it here, but it's rather generic:
Shipping to Canada
CafePress offers several different shipping methods to meet your delivery needs. We calculate our shipping cost for each shipping method based on the type and quantity of items you order. Your shipping and handling charges are summarized at checkout and most packages in your order can be tracked via our carriers' websites.
To find out how much shipping is, proceed to checkout with the item(s) in your cart. The shipping cost for the order will be displayed in the "Select Shipping Option" section of the checkout page.
Your items may arrive in different shipments. Depending on the type, quantity and weight of items in your order, we may pack and ship them in different packages to ensure they arrive on time and undamaged. You will never be charged more for shipping and handling than what appears at checkout. Sign into your account to track your orders*.
*Tracking may not be available for some international destinations.

Thankyou Sir, its on my end.
