According to today's update on Arianespace site, they still plans two launches in 2008. Could they launch Herschel/Planck as V187 in December? Because we know from the latest ILS press-info, Astra 1M is going to be launched on Proton.

"Arianespace maintains its target of conducting seven Ariane 5 flights this year, of which five already have been completed – orbiting eight telecommunications satellites and the Jules Verne Automated Transfer Vehicle for the International Space Station.  The two remaining missions of 2008 are planned for October/November and in December."

It is completely impossible to launch Hershel/Planck so early !

Definitively, if Astra-1M goes on Proton (which is still not sure), V187 will be in 2008.

I don't understand what you mean. It is the Arianespace's politics to do double launches...

I think he means that it is a risk from Eutelsat's point of view.

Will the replacement of NNS 9 by W2M delay V186 ? Will the SPIRALE satellites still be compatible with W2M ?

I don't know...

Is there anybody with an educated guess on when the first Ariane launch in 2009 will be?

On a related note, I will probably be in the area of Kourou, does Arianespace or CNES offer guided tours of the base?

Probably in february. No accurate launch date has been set at this point.

Yes. It is free, but you have to book before. I've heard that the tour is quiet interesting. If there is no hazardous operation when you will get there, the bus will take you on the A5 launch pad.

When you arrive in the Rochambeau airport, you will see an Arianespace stand in the main hall. There, you will find a red telephone which will allow you to book your tour of the CSG.

Hot Bird 9 is less than 5MT and W2M is only around 3MT.

From the latest Arianespace mission update:

"Berterottiere said Arianespace is targeting as many as eight Ariane 5 missions in 2009..."

Due to Hot Bird 10 is similar to Hot Bird 9, I hope Hot Bird 10 & NSS 9 & SPIRALE launch in early 2009. Let's wait and see  :)

The planned launch of Vega / IXV in 2012 should be inserted into the schedule.

SES confirms three new Arianespace launches
Evry, October 17, 2008

http://www.arianespace.com/news-press-release/2008/08-10-17-SES-confirms-Arianespace-launches.asp

"Arianespace announced today that global satellite services provider, SES (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), has committed to three new primary launch services using Ariane, under the Multi Launch Agreement (MLA) signed in June 2007.

The commitment covers three new satellites for the SES group, including Astra 3B for SES ASTRA, plus two other satellites which have yet to be identified.

Ranging from 4,400 to 5,800 kg, the three satellites are slated for launch between 2009 and 2012 using Ariane 5 rockets from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.

Commenting on these latest commitments, Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall said: “With these three new launches, Arianespace continues to deliver launch services that guarantee the capacity and flexibility required by one of the world’s leading satcom operators. I would like to thank the SES group for their continued confidence in us, as reflected by this triple-launch commitment.”"
