Arianespace launch schedule
« on: 01/11/2007 10:27 pm »
According to the latest Arianespace press-release: "As announced (...) by Arianespace CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall, the company foresees launching six Ariane 5s in 2007,..."

The payloads for 2007:

*Ariane-5ECA - Skynet-5A; Insat-4B
Ariane-5? - Star One C-1
Ariane-5? - Team Encounter F-1; SPACETECH-06 ST-06
*Ariane-5ECA - Astra-1L; Galaxy-17
Ariane-5? - Microscope; Amsat Phase-3E Express
Ariane-5GS - BSAT-3a
*Ariane-5ESV - ATV-1 'Jules Verne'
Ariane-5GS - Afristar-2 (Worldstar-3)
Ariane-5GS - Skynet-5B
Ariane-5? - AirTV-1
*Ariane-5GS - KEO
Ariane-5GS - Star One C-2
Ariane-5? - Sicral
Ariane-5? - TerreStar-1

Well, obviously some of this payloads may be delayed to 2008. Anyone can help in knowing which payloads are going to be launch this year, in what combinations and in what kind of Ariane. I think that the ones with * are correct (but that doesn't mean that are going to be launched this year).

Well, we can surley eliminate some payloads from this list:

- Microscope -> 2010 (http://www.cnes.fr/web/2847-microscope.php)
- ST-6 was a integrated payload in TacSat 2
- Team Encounter Solar sail seems to be pretty dead - nothin heared from it for some years, website also gone for a long time

There's no money for Afristar 2 and AirTV never went beyond the drawing board.

I don't expect KEO to fly either, and I'm pessimistic for the AmSat in the near future.

The first four flights of 2007 are already pretty well identified:

Late Feb. - Ariane 5ECA - Skynet 5A + Insat 4B
April - Ariane 5ESA - Astra 1L + Galaxy 17
May/June - Ariane 5GS - Star One C1 + BSAT-3a
July - Ariane 5ES - ATV-1 "Jules Verne"

I'll let you guess for the remaining two.

Does anyone know, how many Ariane-5GS are left to be launched?

I guess at least three (526, 530, 532).

I know that there are two GS in 2007. The next one should be 526. 526 must be flown before 528 to perform the engine reignition test to prepare ATV launch. 528 is the ES-ATV.

526 is from the previous batch, if there are four, that means one in the previous batch and three in the PA batch.

Apparently, TerreStar 1 will go alone on an Ariane 5GS by early 2008.

Are you sure? I thought, Terrestar with a reported launch weight of 6700 kg is above the performance of the Ariane-5GS (6600 kg for a single payload)

With TerreStar going on a GS in 2008, does that mean that Ariane would only launch 5 times in 07?

They may have offloaded fuel to fit on the GS.

Thanks for this information. What do you think are the probabilities of a ATV delay to 2008?

July is still a go for Jules Verne as far as I have heard. Delays are more likely to occur from problems/delays of shuttle launches than from problems with Ariane/ATV.

Some new information about the future (predicted) launch rate of Arianespace:

Arianespace and Astrium sign agreement on Ariane 5 production increase

February 15, 2007

Arianespace and Astrium Space Transportation have decided to increase the Ariane 5 production rate, with the company's two top executives confirming the output ramp-up by signing a declaration today in Bremen, Germany.

[...]

The agreement puts in place the investments needed to supply seven Ariane 5 ECA launchers per year, beginning in February 2008. It also provides the possibility to perform an additional mission annually in a specific Ariane 5 version – for instance to orbit the large Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), which is to service the International Space Station.

That might bring the launch rate from Kourou to about 12+ annually together with Soyuz and Vega in the 2008+ timeframe. I hope they are keeping up with the great mission coverage even with this high flight rate.

Two satellites from the Zenit manifest are now scheduled for an Ariane 5 launch: Horizons 2 and Intelsat 11.

The following launch sequence seems to be reasonable:

Astra 1-F and Galaxy 17 on an Ariane 5ECA on May 03
B-sat 3-A and Spaceway 3 on an Ariane 5ECA on August 18
Horizons 2 and Intelsat 11 on an Ariane 5GS in September
ATV-1 Jules Verne on an Ariane 5ES in November
Terrestar 1 on either an Ariane 5GS or including a second pessenger on an Ariane 5ECA in December

There are no additional payloads at the moment, but may emerge in the second or third quarter of 2007.

I thought that TerreStar-1 was to be launched in 2008. And what about the Star One C satellites?
