Hispasat Amazonas 5
Quote
Amazonas 5, which will be located at 61°W, is to be built by SSL. With this new satellite, the HISPASAT Group will be able to meet growing satellite capacity demand, mainly for satellite television platforms in Latin America and Brazil. Moreover, it has Ka band capacity to deal with new Internet connectivity services.

Amazonas 5 has an expected useful life of 15 years and will be built on SSL's 1300 satellite platform. It will have 11.5 kilowatts of power and a multi-mission useful load distributed into:

- 24 Ku-band transponders, which will provide service in two coverage areas:
   1.- Brazil
   2.- Remaining Latin American countries
- 34 Ka-band spot beams distributed throughout Latin America.

[SpaceNews] ILS Proton to launch AsiaSat-9 on Sept. 28
Quote
ILS spokesperson Karen Soriano told SpaceNews July 31 that Hispasat’s Amazonas 5 is ahead of AsiaSat-9 in Proton’s launch queue. She declined to say when the Amazonas-5 launch would occur.

[Hispasat : July 26, 2017] Amazonas 5 is ready to be sent to the launch site
Quote
Upon completing complex testing at Palo Alto, the Amazonas 5 satellite is now ready for the final preparations prior to being sent to the launch site. As in all satellites of the fleet, comprehensive checking of the performance of all subsystems has been carried out, both in thermo-vacuum and in the environment, confirming the performance of the antennas and the repeater in integrated tests carried out in the Compact Range (CATR).

The Amazonas 5 was also subject of a mechanical test campaign in order to confirm its qualification in line with the requirements established by the different launchers with whom compatibility is required. A detail that differentiates the Amazonas 5 from other SSL satellites to date lies in the fact that Amazonas 5 carries electric propulsion for the On-Station phase. This is why the Xenon gas charge has already been smoothly completed and it will be used to perform orbital correction manoeuvres during the lifespan of the satellite.

INTERNATIONAL LAUNCH SERVICES (ILS) ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF THE AMAZONAS 5 SATELLITE AT THE BAIKONUR COSMODROME
The Amazonas 5 satellite for HISPASAT of Madrid, Spain, arrived at the Baikonur Cosmdrome in Kazakhstan aboard an Antonov cargo jet on August 8 in preparation for mission integration and launch aboard an ILS Proton Breeze M launch vehicle in September. The satellite will be used for both video content delivery and internet connectivity, among other services, in Latin America.
The launch of Amazonas 5 will be the 95th ILS Proton mission and the 30th with a Space Systems Loral (SSL) satellite. It will also be 414th Proton mission overall since its maiden flight in 1965. Amazonas 5, based on the SSL 1300 platform, will be located at 61°W longitude and is designed to provide service for 15 years or more. The Proton launch vehicle is developed and manufactured by Khrunichev Space Center, one of the mainstays of the space industry, located in Moscow.
ILS provides launch services for satellite operators and offers a complete array of services and support, from contract arrangements, mission management and on-orbit delivery. ILS markets Proton launch services (Proton Breeze M and Proton Variants) and Angara 1.2 for LEO missions, to commercial and government satellite operators worldwide. Lovely pics, brings back memories.  I even road that train from the airfield to the facility with a satellite once in that shoddy crew car.  Baikonur adventures I'll never forget- camel spiders, drunk Russians(and Americans), running for our lives on the launch pad, fights at the Kazakh bars, and watching Protons ascend into the heavens in the crystal clear night(most of the time).

SSL Built Multi-Mission Satellite for Hispasat Arrives at Launch Base

PALO ALTO, Calif. – August 10, 2017 — Space Systems Loral (SSL), a leading provider of innovative satellites and spacecraft systems, today announced that the multi-mission Amazonas 5 satellite, designed and built for HISPASAT, has arrived at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where it will be launched aboard a Proton Breeze M vehicle provided by International Launch Services (ILS). The satellite will be used for both video content delivery and internet connectivity in Latin America.

“HISPASAT and SSL have a collaborative relationship and have worked together since 2007 to develop advanced spacecraft capability,” said Paul Estey, executive vice president and chief operating officer of SSL. “With Amazonas 5, we are pleased to help Hispasat broaden its high quality offerings in Latin America and we look forward to its successful launch.”

Amazonas 5 has 34 Ka-band spot beams and 24 Ku-band transponders, which will be used for broadband internet services, television, corporate networks, and other telecommunications applications in Brazil and Latin America. Based on the SSL 1300 platform, the satellite will be located at 61°W longitude and is designed to provide service for 15 years or more. With this new satellite, the HISPASAT Group will help bridge the digital divide in Latin America and will grow its video neighborhood in the region.

“SSL has been a very reliable manufacturing partner, and is providing us with a highly advanced satellite that will help us grow our business in Latin America,” said Carlos Espinós, chief executive officer of HISPASAT. “We are happy that Amazonas 5 has arrived in Baikonur safely, and look forward to expanding our television and internet service in Latin America.”

Amazonas 5 is the third satellite that SSL has provided to Hispasat and the company is also building Hispasat 30W-6, which is expected to launch later this year. SSL built Amazonas 3, Latin America’s first satellite with a high throughput payload for broadband internet, and Hispasat 30W-5, which was launched in 2010.

Anatoly Zak:
"The launch of Amazonas-5 was previously planned at the end of July 2017. However by that time, the mission was postponed from the end of August to Sept. 9, 2017. The spacecraft was delivered to the launch site on an An-124/Ruslan cargo plane on Aug. 8, 2017. At the time, Amazonas-5 was still officially scheduled to lift off on September 9, but, because the Proton rocket for the mission left Moscow by rail only around August 8, the launch would probably have to be postponed until Sept. 18, 2017, sources familiar with the campaign said."

I hope you don't mind me posting this here; I've created an animation that depicts the Amazonas 5 launch sequence, with help from the Mission Overview data.
