From a former Shuttle hugger, I wish you folks all the best for the recovery. I have absolute confidence in your professionalism and resolve to see this through. You have amazed me before with what you can do, and you will amaze me again.

Lots of people are going to start throwing stones, but just remember, you're nobody in the space business until you've had a failure. It happens to everybody eventually, the only question is when. Ultimately, failures only make vehicles and systems stronger and safer, and are a source of more knowledge and wisdom than successes ever are.

Per ardua ad astra.

Before launch this morning I was telling my wife how much I would love to be a teenager again to begin my career at this pivotal point in our history, when we are truly at the verge of becoming a species that has a permanent presence beyond Earth. After this anomaly I feel no different. The team at SpaceX has made this old guy very excited about the future, Shake this off, learn everything that you can learn, and bounce back quickly. You have my full support and confidence and I know that millions of others share this view. Go SpaceX and all the people that are taking on the hard stuff to make our world a better and more exciting place.

a real kick in the gut.

Challenger and Columbia were a kick in the gut.

I'm old enough to remember Apollo 1, too.

This is nothing.  This is just a minor setback.  Buck up, rub some dirt on it, and get back in the game again.
Post of the thread, thanks for the needed dose of perspective.

Did OSC get a similar thread?  I cant remember.

Condolences.  But I know SpaceX... you will not let one setback deter you.  SpaceX, you have come so far so fast. sometimes there is a step backward but you will find the cause, and solve it and keep climbing.

Clear skies and hot jets.

(but I can't help but feel sorry for poor little OCISLY, waiting forlornly out there for a stage that will never come)

Elon,

If you need a volunteer for your first manned flight, although I'm not pilot qualified, the line can form up behind me!  It looks like you've got a handle on what went wrong, and mI'm certain that you guys will have a fix for it within a few months.

Horrible news for Spacex :(

Hopefully they work things out quickly and get back to flight soon.

All the best.

This is a sad day indeed.

But keep calm, keep at it, have a llama upon your person at all times and carry on. Failure happens.

While what happens sucks remember:

1. No one was hurt (really bid point)
2.  Cargo resupply equipment can be easily replaced, better an anomaly now than on Jason, a com sat, or a crew vehicle.
3. Still had 18 successful previous launches of a launcher, a 94.7% success rate.

So find the technical cause, and then the management/organizational roots. Dont rush the investigation to fly, that can wait until ready to go.

Sorry to see this, SpaceX folks. We all know it's a tough job and what you do isn't easy.  Good luck for a quick and thorough failure investigation and return to flight.

Damnation... a second stage problem that took out the first stage too; rotten luck. But a mission failure is very bad even if there had been a stage return.

I'm sure you will take this failure and use it to improve, and your future flights will be more amazingly successful than ever.

I'm still watching with optimism and delight at your progress.

Space is hard, you folks rock and I hope you're able to come out of this at full steam.

But, in case you need more motivation:

Sorry for today.

Keep on your great work.

(Of course I am disappointed, but even that event to me showed the strength of the design. Stage 1 still trucking along some 8 seconds after the S2 ruptured, Dragon looking like it was in one piece was well.)

Be strong in this difficult time and keep working hard, after this single failure many successful launches will come. Don't forget how far you have come: you are an inspiration for millions!
