"And getting pinned heavier and heavier and heavier in your seat, like someone is just pouring sand on you."
This is exactly what it feels like to pull G's when strapped in a seat, such a great descriptor.
"Someone just repealed the law of gravity and everybody laughs in the whole cockpit, everybody laughs partially out of nervous relief, partially out of unbidden delight that suddenly things are wayy different."
Nervous relief, I bet, esp after that 1st 2 minutes of riding the solids.
CHris Hadfield, such a great man, he deserves the Order of Canada. It was unfortunate that the idiotic story of Rob Ford edged out Mr Hadfields for top Canadian NEWS story of 2013.
Great video, Mr Hadfield makes you feel like you were there with him.

On Joe Rogans podcast show, he interviewed Colonel Chris Hadfield.
Interesting to see a genuine interest of spaceflight and related topics.
Caution, Mr Rogan does use some profanity. One example is at the end of the interview when Mr Rogan thanks Colonel Hadfield for all he has accomplished and then states, ?Colonel Hadfield you are a bad mother-f%@&er:."
Be careful with teh volume at work or around the kiddies.
Here is the video.

Very interesting interview. Chris Hadfield knows how to entertain while remaining 100% correct about what he says. I found also the interviewer, Joe Rogan, extremely sound.
Thanks to A and Hog for posting this material.
The only thing I disagree about with what Chris said is the idea that in the future people will look at spacecraft like the Space Shuttle ridiculizing it ("what were they thinking when they designed this?"). Actually it's even more amazing to look at past solutions, while considering what they did with the little, sometime marginal technical and scientific knowledge available at the time. Every time I read Newton or Galileo's scripts and accomplishments, or just about the F-1 rocket engine development, and think at what these people created, demonstrated and invented from barely nothing a few centuries (or decades) ago, I feel we are less smart than them today. The shoulders of giants etc... , you know.

I miss shuttle launches.
Me too, more than ever. People and cargo on every launch, from a North American launch facility. I wish serious commercial talks started earlier than they did, or that STS launched 2-3 times a year until Commercial Crew was on-line.
Chris Hadfield did mention the military requirements placed upon STS during development, then when military use dissolved, NASA had to use the system as is.
