Final H-IIA launches
« on: 11/29/2020 02:43 am »
Is there a defined number of remaining H-IIA launch vehicles?  Seeking confirmation, clarification, or correction.

I have selected the remaining H-IIA launches from the launch schedule (plus one that I was not sure about that is TBD 2021).  Are there any missing, or launching together?

Named satellite links are to Gunter's Page.

There is no IGS satellite launch using the H-IIA scheduled for this year.
I suspected this would be true, given Fuji's information.

However, do you have a source?  (If your source is Wikipedia: Remember, at best, it is a secondary level source.)

Fuji's launch schedule update of July 17 scratches the "IGS Optical ORS type" launch.

In this article Mitsubishi confirms that there are no plans to produce beyond the 50th launch (which I'm not sure if it includes the first two test launches). Though my reading of the original Japanese says this isn't in the sense of "50th launch" but more in the sense of "serial number 50", which would imply F50 rather than F48.  https://xtech.nikkei.com/atcl/nxt/news/18/13422/

Through google translate:
Quote
The H-2A rocket is scheduled to be retired after the 50th launch. On the other hand, the H3 rocket, which is the next flagship rocket, is facing difficulties in development, including two postponements of its launch. However, Mr. Takeshi Tokunaga, Deputy General Manager of the Space Business Division, Defense and Space Segment, said, "We are not considering additional production of the H-2A after Unit 50."

And an alternate translation through DeepL (often better for Japanese-->English, notably getting the name of Ken Tokunaga correct and not cutting out his additional title):
Quote
The H-2A rocket is scheduled to be retired after its 50th launch. Meanwhile, the development of the H3 rocket, the next-generation core rocket, has been difficult, as its launch has been postponed twice. However, Ken Tokunaga, deputy general manager of the Space Business Department of the company's Defense & Space Segment and executive officer for H-2A launches, says, "We are not planning any additional production after the 50th H-2A launch vehicle.

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

Japanese space launches on 2023

01 -  January 26, 2023  01:50:21 (UT) - H-2A (F46) - IGS Radar-7

Japan launch schedule
2023

JFY2023 - H-2A (F47) 202 configuration- XRISM(X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission), SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon)

2023 - H-2A - IGS Optical-8

2024

JFY 2024 - H-2A - IGS Radar-8
JFY 2024 -  H-2A (F50) (Last flight)- GOSAT-GW (GOSAT-3)

Changes on Jan. 26, 2023

What is the source for the H-IIA launches stretching into JFY2024?  (It is not a surprising development, given Japanese orbital launch rate.)
