And another of the same model for an upcoming wind tunnel test, but with the "lid" on (click)

Jon

Thanks for the “eye candy” and “the teaser”  Jon!  ;D

Just to be clear, I didn't take these most recent pictures - just providing links to items I've been made aware of.

Since they already picked the Atlas V as their LV, I'm not sure where else they would have launched from to ISS.

Yg1968 was speculating about the DC on Ariane V on the Q&A, quoting Sirangelo. Launch from Guiana Space Centre for ESA? I don’t know about that ever coming to fruition. It would be similar to what ESA would have had with the X-38 or Hermes. With all the attention to Dragon, I feel the need to give Dream Chaser some love… ;D

Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport has a paper which describes how the upgraded pad can launch the Atlas V, VAFB also can launch the Atlas V.

VAFB cannot launch to ISS. As far as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport - while possible, it is less a SnC decision vs a ULA decision. And I don't see ULA going there.

ULA was at Wallops back in February for just such an evaluation for use:

And VAFB can launch to ISS, it is *just* within the boundaries, and I mean just within the boundaries, half a degree to be exact.

Interesting, thanks.

I've read that claim, I just don't see how it is possible without a massive performance penalty. Have you seen where this trajectory would go?

There is a performance penalty, just not a huge one.  Here is a map of the angles:

http://www.angelismarriti.it/images/launch_sites_8.jpg

The VAFB launch manual states that it can operate from a launch angle of 148 degrees to 51 degrees.

The 21st Century Ground Systems Program web page says

"Launch Pad 39B is envisioned as a site that could see the liftoff of a Space Launch System super rocket one week, an Atlas V the next and a private rocket the week after that."
http://www.nasa.gov/exploration/systems/ground/21stcentGSP.html

So that is a third possible launch location.

Possible, but unlikely. ULA itself has seemed less than thrilled about using LC-39 and much prefer a new crew-access tower at the current Atlas pad. It's only been KSC and a certain Senator N. pushing for commercial launches on 39...

Any indication on how close they are to rolling out the atmospheric test vehicle?  Seems like all is quiet on the vehicle development front...

The first tethered test flight from a SkyCrane helicopter took place earlier today :D
Also, great pics and video of the flight and preparation in the L2 section.

Too bad we don't have Homer Simpson smileys to paste on to our posts.
But here goes my take on his well known triumphant call:

WOOHOO!....

Great to see real progress from a legitimate spacecraft development company. Welcome to my legitimacy list, Dream Chaser.

Given the choice between rooting for Excalibur Almaaz or rooting for
Dream Chaser, I would root for Dream Chaser.

Every negative or cynical thought that I may have had against Dream Chaser in years gone by, I take back. Humble pie.

A first tethered test flight? I assume that it remained tethered, or was there an actual drop and landing?
