Those tornado warnings are right along where a lot of space coast employees live.  I hope they are safe.

Worse, many from the West Coast moved inland to avoid the storm surge, only to be caught in the crosshairs of all these tornadoes.

How prepared are Floridians for tornadoes? In "tornado alley" (e.g., Kansas, etc.) residents often  have storm cellars or especially-constructed shelter rooms, usually an interior room with reinforced walls. But in Florida, a cellar would be a bad idea due to flooding.

Parts of Brevard County are currently experiencing winds and rain from Hurricane Milton.

At this time, you should be finished with preparations. Now is the time to stay inside your chosen shelter and wait out the storm.

There are lots of tornado-warning polygons around the Cape right now.

2:48 PM | All red-highlighted areas on this map are under a Tornado WARNING. As you can see, this is a large portion of east central Florida. Please have multiple ways to receive warnings and seek shelter if a warning is issued for your location!

For those of you who are not familiar with the NWS nomenclature, a tornado WARNING means that an actual tornado has been sighted. This is not  just a general caution. This is also why the map shows a bunch of specific areas. The whole much larger area is under a tornado WATCH.

Here is an easy reminder:

All of Brevard County is currently under a Tornado Watch, and parts of Brevard are under a Tornado Warning as Hurricane Milton impacts Florida.

We want to remind our residents and visitors of the difference between a watch and warning.

The eye is going to hit the west coast of Florida during a rising tide, which will add a couple of feet to the storm surge.

I have to leave for work, so I would appreciate it if someone else could continue updating. Thanks, and I hope everyone affected is safe.

Reed Timmer is live streaming from the East coast of Florida, if you want to see this live.

People can buy steel above ground storm rooms that are anchored to a concrete pad.  Some are only big enough for 2 people, some bigger.  They have to be higher than flood zone.  I retired in 2013 and though about moving to Florida, but decided not to.  Why, because of hurricanes, alligators, boa constrictors, and mosquitoes.  In summer sometimes in rains every afternoon.  Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and South Dakota have no tax on retirement income.  Texas is too hot in summer, and too cold in winter sometimes, South Dakota is too cold, Florida well see above, so that leaves Tennessee.  I live in Alabama.  Low property taxes, low income tax, low cost of living, but still hot in summer.

I did see some time ago, that the VAB can only withstand 140 mph winds.

This is bad....Tropicana Field was turned into a hurricane shelter with thousands of beds.  The hurricane ripped the roof off of it.  Looks like the structure is okay just the fabric is gone.  I hope everyone is okay.

Short news clip but covers a lot of different aspects of the storm's passage including several tornados:

Just heard from my buddy in Cocoa. Milton's passed through with lots of rain, some limbs down and no power since this morning, otherwise OK. All the tornadoes went west or stayed out to sea. Cell phone still works.

Even winds on the trailing side of the center seem to be diminishing.
