Japanese team sharing ride with Indus

http://www.theverge.com/2016/12/20/14023336/google-lunar-x-prize-teams-moon-pslv-rocket-hakuto-indus

Quote
Two of the teams competing in the Google Lunar X Prize competition have agreed to share a ride to the Moon next year. The Japanese team, HAKUTO, announced today that Indian group Team Indus will carry its four-wheeled lunar rover to the Moon’s surface. Team Indus announced this month that its spacecraft — a lunar lander and rover combo — is slated to ride on a PSLV rocket, a proven vehicle developed by the Indian Space Research Organization. HAKUTO’s rover will ride to space on the lander Team Indus is developing.

“THIS IS A GREAT DEMONSTRATION OF TEAMS COMING TOGETHER.”
The ride-share agreement and launch contracts have been officially verified by X Prize, which means HAKUTO can move forward in the competition. “We’re proud to verify HAKUTO’s launch agreement and are pleased to see two Google Lunar X Prize teams collaborating on this mission to the Moon,” Chanda Gonzales-Mowrer, a senior director at Google Lunar X Prize, said in a statement. “The purpose of this prize was, in part, to foster collaboration in the private sector and this is a great demonstration of teams coming together in the next giant leap in space exploration.”

Thanks Olaf!

From the report

Quote
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet South Asian satellite project, meanwhile, will take off in March.

The South Asian satellite will be a part of GSAT-9, which will be launched in March this year, M. Nageshwara Rao, Associate Director of ISRO said.

So, SouthAsiaSat will be indeed another name for GSAT-9.

But how would they do it in March if GSLV-III/GSAT-19 has the SLP booked till that month? Either the GSLV-III would have to launch by Feb, or they would need to use FLP to launch GSLV/GSAT-9,  something that they haven't done in a long time. Or, either GSAT-19 or GSAT-9 will have to wait longer.

When is your next launch aboard India’s PSLV rocket?
Blake: In May.

With the first pair of your BlackSky optical imaging satellites?
Blake: No, there’s another one in July with Blacksky on it.

What does the U.S. government tell you about a launching on the PSLV?
Andrews: We can get waivers from the general restriction. There’s some flexibility now because people are starting to recognize that PSLV pricing is at, or higher than, U.S. launch prices. So the whole fear of dumping is unfounded.

Wouldn’t someone need to know a lot about PSLV’s cost structure to call it dumping?
Andrews: What we need to know is that they are not going below U.S. prices. I mean, if they were dumping it would have to be under some reference.

So you launch in May and then in July on PSLV?
Andrews: Yes, and then a launch in September.

Are these May - July Launches on PSLV included at the launch schedule.
