Isro to launch SSLV by August, says senior scientist
New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), India’s central space agency, will be launching its Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) within “the next one or two months", said Victor Joseph, associate scientific secretary at Isro.
The development of Isro’s SSLV was delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic, which led to its launch being deferred. In April this year, union minister of state for space, Jitendra Singh, had said that the SSLV could be launched by the third quarter of 2022, after its initial launch timeline of end-2021 was scrapped.

Someone at the press conference should have asked what the cause of the long delay of the SSLV is. Anyway, good news that the launch should take place at the end of July. Eagerly awaiting!

“For communications satellite AzaadiSAT, we worked together with 750 children from 75 schools across the country. A majority of these students were from government schools. They were given kits with basic experiments which they worked on,” said Srimathy Kesan, founder and CEO, Space Kidz India.
From February this year, students attended online sessions with Space Kidz where they learnt to work with the components they were given, and were taught about satellites, rockets, and some basic programming and coding. “They sent us back the experiments they had finished, and we have integrated this into the AzaadiSAT which will be launched on August 15,” Ms. Kesan said.
I wonder what happened to the planned second ground test of S85 (SS1 first stage)?
The successful test of solid booster stage has given sufficient confidence to proceed with the first developmental flight of SSLV (SSLV-D1) which is scheduled in May 2022. The remaining stages of SSLV i.e. SS2 & SS3 stages have successfully undergone necessary ground tests and are ready for integration.
"SSLV First stage is a new solid motor...new design. New motor has to be static tested on the ground to prove its performance. If it is successful, one more of the same configuration is tested again for acceptance. If both are successful, no more ground test is required and third motor of the same configuration will be accepted for flight", an ISRO official said.
\Either there was no requirement of two successful static tests to begin with, or they skipped the second test for SS1 for some reason
Rocket connection work started in SHARSullurpet: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is making arrangements to launch the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) designed to send small satellites into orbit at the end of this month... The rocket docking work has already started on the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Center (SHAR)..
