KEY POINTS

Mattel and Elon Musk’s SpaceX have inked a multiyear licensing deal for a line of toys inspired by the space venture.

The toy company expects to begin releasing the SpaceX product line in 2023.

The partnership comes after Mattel sent two Barbie dolls into space as part of a collaboration with the International Space Station National Lab.

No details yet of what the toys (models?) might be.

How can Mattel keep up with all the design changes with Starship and Booster? There are going to be toys for X-mass that kids(adults?) will notice how out of date they will be to whatever current design Elon is using.

Based on history, they won't even try. There are plastic models for the Saturn V that still have the 500F paint scheme... and plastic modelers are notoriously more picky about authenticity than toy buyers.
