I think the current plan is to only send down 2 rescuers... So once this one goes down, the capsule will be empty for the remaining descents. The rescuers will most likely be the last ones coming up.

It will take a long time to get them all with this pace, but the system seems to work fine.

The media people are disgustingly rude in there :( Pushing family members out of the way etc.

sadly it was no different in 1958; actually worse from what I read; the reporters were right at the mine head, when the miners were brought out some things never change;

Mario's return was more vocal. I think you could say he's happy!

Indeed! Lots of high-fiving, hugs, and cheering more commonly associated with sports. :)

the trip took 10 minutes, at this rate, they could be all back up by morning, but I think they will be slower for the last miners; and yeah, he sure was a bit emotional wasn't he LOL and now the second medic goes down;

third miner rescued and I am calling it a night;
took a bit longer, 18 minutes, but he was also wheeled off in a gurney; didn't see the other two wheeled off;
    they are examining the capsule;

good night

Many kudos to NASA for applying lessons learned during human spaceflight to this situation.  This is a tangible benefit from NASA.  So often the focus is on the machines (I am guilty of that).  But, the expansion of knowledge on the human element is of equal benefit, if not more.

Is the money spent on NASA worth it?  I think the 33 miners and their families would think so.

Just my $.02.

Also, NASA is such a big name globally. More people know "NASA" than "ESA" in the UK for example, and 99 percent of the time it all the good stuff like moon landings and shuttle launches. It'd of meant a lot to even the rescue workers. Actually stuggling to think of a better known agency.

1. NASA.
2. YCFC <---I joke (English will understand ;D)
3. FBI

etc.

RELEASE: 10-258

STATEMENT BY THE NASA ADMINISTRATOR ON THE CHILEAN MINERS RESCUE

WASHINGTON -- The following is a statement from NASA Administrator
Charles Bolden on the rescue effort for the Chilean miners.

"On behalf of the entire NASA family, I want to ask that our heartfelt
thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the courageous miners,
their families and friends, and the dedicated people who have been
working to safely reach those who are still trapped underground.

"There is a lot of hard work ahead for rescuers, but the Chilean
government and the people of that great nation should be praised for
their steadfast determination. Their unwavering commitment is the
reason we are witness to the joyful and emotional reunions today as
the miners are returned to the surface one-by-one.

"I also want to express my personal thanks to the Americans who have
assisted in this heroic effort, and specifically the NASA team that
traveled to Chile in the early days of the crisis. For decades, the
people of this agency have learned to live, work, and survive in the
hostile environment of space. Our expertise in maintaining
physiological and psychological health, and our technical and
engineering experience in spacecraft design all proved to be valuable
in a situation that is far from our traditional scope of work.

"I am proud of the people of this agency who were able to bring the
experience of spaceflight down to Earth when it was needed most. As
the drama of this recue continues to unfold before us, we pray for
the safe return of each and every miner."
