Too bad we're not likely to get pictures after the scandal with the French dude taking pics of the mobile lift during the fit checks a year ago.

Yes, very bad......This should be a moment of "pride" for Russian Space.

yeah I received an email reply from an email I sent on Monday to samspace.ru saying only approved media can request pictures and video only after a successful launch has occurred.

I think that it may cover both of the following Russian Launches from Plesetsk Cosmodrome as the start date and end date cover both launches:
December 23 2013 – two calibration spheres SKRL-756, Aist No. 1 – Soyuz-2-1V/Volga – Plesetsk 43/4
December 25 2013 – Rodnik satellites (x3) – Rokot/Briz-KM – Plesetsk 133/3

Map to visualize drop zones ULD1 and ULD2

So it seems the target orbit is not SSO, but something 70-85 deg. inclination-ish?

According to: http://aist.ssau.ru/docs/Космическая%20платформа%20АИСТ%202013%20г.pptx

It will be 575 km altitude and 64.9 inclination, which is same as orbit for the first Aist, which has flown with Bion-M.

I've just been told that they have problems during launch preparation, but the launch is still scheduled for 23rd December.

No more informations right now, sorry.

Andrey is reporting on NK that the launch has slipped to December 25 at the same launch time. Now with a Rokot launch scheduled just half a day earlier can those at Plesetsk pull out two launches in 12 hours? After all it's no Baikonur where rockets are dozens of kilometers apart....  ::)

Well they used to do that all the time during Soviet times, so shouldn't be a problem.

Wonder if this NOTAM for "space debris" over South Pacific later on December 24 is related to this launch

I'm looking at this as a new rocket, since it uses a new first stage and first stage propulsion system.  It surely isn't an R-7.  It is "Soyuz" only in the same sense that "Atlas 5" claims a link to the original "Atlas", despite using a completely different booster stage in place of the part that was originally called "Atlas".

I'm wavering on this one. I go with the core stage, and the core stage has some commonalities. New engine, true,
but the basic dimensions are essentially the same as the R-7 Blok A.  I didn't count an RD-180-engined Atlas 3 as a
new family despite its new propulsion system, and I didn't consider the TR-201-powered Delta second stage
as a different stage family from the AJ-10-118 powered versions. So I'm leaning towards keeping the Soyuz-2-1V launches
in my 'R-7' family table.
