Congratulations to JAXA.

The coverage may have left something to be desired, but the sound was fab...literally...that thing taking off sounded rather like Thunderbird 3 :D

Was that screaming noise coming from the ground equipment or the rocket? I can't imagine anything coming from the rocket being even close to the engine rumble in loudness.

Congrats to JAXA on a successful maiden flight! Always good to see a new LV enter service. And best wishes for the HTV's mission.

Watching the video, was it just me or is H-IIB very quick off the pad? It seemed to be going very fast for such a large vehicle - or maybe it was just the lack of reference points. Either way, very impressive. :)

A lot of solids will lead to a faster launch due to higher thrust.

Will there be a new thread for the orbital mission?

Coming from the ground equipment.

What equipment? I'm kind of disappointed it wasn't the rocket.

*This* is how Delta IV should have been developed, how a liquid hydrogen core stage is supposed to be used.  H-2B is a pocket monster.  It can lift 8 tonnes to GTO - as much as an Atlas V-541, way more than any Delta IV Medium or Proton or Zenit, and approaching Ariane 5 territory.  Those powerful SRB-A motors are the key element in this design.

Launch price for the first one was 14 Billion Yen thats around 150 Million US-Dollar. This should fall to 11 Billion Yen after second or third flight. Thats around 120 Million US-Dollar. This can further decrease since the Dollar is very weak compared to Yen at the moment.
