Here's an Iranian website that uses dousti as the transliteration of friendship.

http://dousti.net/Persian/?lang=en

And this site uses doosti!

https://urdu.wordinn.com/doosti-in-english

Seems that both transliterations are equally valid.

The first source that pointed the failed launch used Doosti. Why it 'should' be Dousti?

The Iranian media sources mostly call it "Dousti", which was the name in the original title of this thread.

* Dousti in Teheran Times, Dousti Teheran Times
* Dousti by Mehr news agency, published by papers like Iran Daily
* Dousti by Fars news agency
* Dousti in Financial Tribune

Here's an Iranian website that uses dousti as the transliteration of friendship.

The Irianian language is Farsi / Persian. Urdu is Pakistan.

It seems Dousti with the U is the preponderance of sources name (that's how we resolve these sorts of things on Wikipedia)

First post and last post changed. However, this thread title is right at the very end of the character limit. To get the U in some other characters have to go... dropped a dash.

I have removed the "FAILURE" from the thread title again, and please leave it this way until some quotable source - which is more notable than the Deputy minister of defence of Iran - confirms failure.

The absence of an entry in the US satellite catalog is, in my experienced opinion, a very strong confirmation that the launch was a failure. [It *might* take a day or two for the US to pick up a new LEO object if it was an unexpected one, but for sure they are monitoring the Iranian launches, and all previous successful Iranian satellites have been cataloged within hours of launch]. I think FAILURE should stay. The only question was whether the launch happened at all - which I now regard as confirmed. If it happened, it certainly did not result in any new objects in LEO, therefore it was a failure.

<image of a chat with someone>

Who is this person and are they official enough that we should give their view more credence than the preponderance of citations Steven gave? All I see is a chat with the name blanked out.

Frankly, I only changed it because there were several mod reports asking for the change. If y'all want to change it back and forth in your posts that's fine by me although seems like a waste of effort. But at some point, if there ever is a consensus, I'm gonna come in and change EVERY post to whatever the consensus is.

Although Iran Press calls it Dousti http://iranpress.com/iran-i132102 and Islamic Republic News Agency calls it Dusti http://www.irna.ir/en/News/83197049 , the correct transliteration seems to be doosti https://www.bing.com/translator/?to=fa&text=friendship
At least they agree it's a "micro-class 52-kilogram satellite developed by the experts from Sharif University of Technology."
As Iranian Space Agency is silent about the launch, it's unlikely there will be an official statement about the failure.

Still, nothing on space-track. Iran did a realy nice job recognizing the Simorgh failure but it is not understandable the way they are dealing with Doosti's launch failure.

Everybody knows the thing went wrong and it looks like they are trying to pass a message for domestic consuption that the thingy actually made it into orbit while knowing that the rest of the world already knows the rocket failed.

The deadly fire in the Iranian Space Research Center is not linked to the launch of “Friendship Satellite”, ICT Minister Mohammad-Javad Azari-Jahromi said on Monday.
Blaze in Iranian Space Research Center not linked to “Friendship Satellite”: Minister
He made the remarks while talking to IRNA correspondent on the sidelines of a ceremony in the northeastern city of Mashad where a development center was inaugurated at the city’s ICT Park.
The Informations and Communcations Technology Minister further noted that the fire was not a terrorist incident either.
One of the transportation installations of the Iranian Space Research Center was being tested eight days ago when it caught fire.
The fire was so fierce that killed two of the technicians and an engineer working at the center.
The minister ruled out rumors about connections between the fire and launching Iran’s “Friendship Satellite”, saying the incident is under investigation.

What strikes me about this launch is the consequently poor quality of all sources who say "failure". All of them have either a source that they are not able to name or even slightly describe, or do not live up to their claim (like "Satellite Imagery Suggests 2nd Iranian Space Launch Has Failed", which is not what the rest of the article says).

Eliminating all the rumour-like sources, it still comes down to the Iranian deputy defense minister vs. the US Army's Space-Track catalog. With the latter one surely having the better track record.

Are you really waiting that some of us reveal the name of sources inside Iran that said that the launch was a failure?
