Blocking/ignoring users
« on: 08/18/2011 07:32 pm »
Hi there,

Is there any way to set posts from particular users not to show up in the forum?

Cheers!  :)

HA! I've had a look and can't see anything obvious, but 1) I'll ask Mark, and 2) It'll probably be included in the upgrade we're carrying out this year.

It is doable on SMF. Not advisable as I've seen it lead to more arguments than it solves!

In my experience, people should either learn to not get riled by fools; and if the fool is that bad, then I'll let Chris 'deal' with them.

Who says that Chris isn't the fool I want to block/ignore?  ;) ;) :D

Yep, there is already.

Go to Profile-> Personal Messaging. Then enter the username in the list.

I know its under PMs but it hides the person's posts as well. It also gives you a show\hide button for the post. Though I've noticed it messes up the template from time to time.

Problem is: if you ignore an OP, then someone you're NOT ignoring quotes the OP, you still get the OP's comments.  I find an ignore command useless many times because of that -- particularly as much as topics get discussed here!

It's not perfect, but it does hide a lot of the "fertilizer" (the remainder can usually be negotiated with knee boots rather than waders ;) ).

But sometimes the response is interesting, even if the point being responded to confirms that the poster should stay in your ignore list.

cheers, Martin

I have a greasemonkey script that does this:

No idea how it compares to the built-in stuff, but I find it useful.

You've created a script to run on this site? I sure hope you have permission, as that's not a wise move!!

Relax, greasemonkey scripts run entirely in the browser. There is zero impact on the website.

I don't know the first thing about programming, but so long as it doesn't blow up the site it's fine by me ;D

I haven't tested the script on Chrome but I know greasemonkey exists for it.

Or are you still using IE? If so, kudos on your laziness ;)

This is like the internet's version of walking around with fingers in one ears.

Everyone should man up. We don't have trolls on here.
