Shuttle post-Columbia launch constraints
« on: 05/06/2006 07:30 pm »
Anyone out there know if they plan on lifting the Launch on Need rescue standby after 121, and also what about the daylight launch constraint, seems to me 115 is scheduled for evening Florida time...

If memory serves, the STS-300 type mission is only for 121 and not beyond. I think Wayne Hale was quoted at one point saying they would like to fly daylight missions for a few more though. As always, correct me if I am wrong  :)

Ya, lifting the daylight launch constraint would probably let them get the ISS finished sooner because they'd have far more launch opportunities.

Daylight constraint eliminates 40% of all launch opportunities per year. It would be nice to get rid of it.

Actually, the the daylight launch window and LON requirement is for both STS-121 and STS-115. If those two are clean flights then both requirements will be dropped for 116 and beyond.

Ok, they must have added 115 since the last I had heard. My guess is in light of the issues on 114, but that's just a guess on my part.
