Well, it could have been a test of General Bolden. President Obama might have asked it to see if General Bolden would just roll over and accept it or if he would put up a fight for "his" agency.
"For Sardines, space is no problem!"
-1996 Astronaut class slogan

"We're rolling in the wrong direction but for the right reasons"
-USA engineer about the rollback of Discovery prior to the STS-114 Return To Flight mission

Interesting comment from PBO's talk with Atlantis yesterday: "And we're soon going to have a new NASA Administrator. I can't disclose it to you, because I've got to have hoopla on the announcement back here on Earth."
If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

Bobby Block phone call to General Bolden asking him if he turned down the job:
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_space_thewritestuff/2009/05/charie-bolden-a-short-chat-with-the-man-who-would-be-nasa-chief.html

For a moment there, I was recalling news reports from the Kuwait war, with reporters asking about mission details, even though they were told NO. No means no.

I'm not getting worked up. I want the right person for the job, to look past the BS, and to do the job right.

So much for NASAWatch's "sources", no suprises there, saying the meeting didn't go well. Bolden is appointed, as per Jay Barbree. Good news :)

Looks like they gave Jay the "scoop" with official release to come later this morning. Expect to see the Deputy announced then as well.

Bobby Block broke it first it seems, and ran the news in the LA Times.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-nasa-admin23-2009may23,0,430144.story

AP also cite that story as breaking the news.

However, MSNBC get the initial name first run (as cited at the start of this thread).

Good news me thinks!

They all seem good at first...  We'll only be able to judge Bolden or whoever gets in the top seat in a few years.
