Do we know if any of the state owned corporations are actually behind the rocket design? I have been following discussions on the Chinese forums about this start-up for some time and based on the scant info available I have much doubts that they can fly anytime soon......unless, they are actually a front end company providing services on behalf of someone else.

Any ideas?

According to ChinaSpaceflight, OneSpace will develop some new rocket's configurations with strap-on boosters. Interesting, the diameter of the rockets is 1.2 meters.
PS: All of them are solid rockets

I don't think it is a front company, currently they can buy some 2.2m motors from some state owned corporations, But it does not always work, we knew these motors derived from DF-31 ICBM.
Above are my personal views.
But, I heard they are facing some problems with that

Chinese commercial rocket company OneSpace set for debut launch in June
by Andrew Jones Jan 17, 2018

One of China's emerging commercial launch vehicle companies has its sights on June for the first launch of its new rocket series, which could mark a huge step towards the goal of providing a range of low-cost launch services.

OneSpace has said it expects to launch its first OS-X1 rocket, designed for suborbital flights to provide high-altitude research and test services, in June following successful tests of its solid-propellant engine last month.

Lingtai Kongjian.
Как отметил Шу Чан, OS-M будет отправлена в космос тоже в 2018 году, однако по срокам ее запуск состоится несколько позже.

BEIJING, Jan. 28. / Corr. Nikolay Selishchev. Private Chinese company Lingtai Kongjian in June will launch the first in China launch of commercial space rocket series One Space (OS). According to the general director of the enterprise Shu Chang, 500 million yuan ($ 78.2 million) have already been allocated for the implementation of the budget project.

"This money will be spent on the construction of independently developed OS-X and OS-M rockets, the first of which was successfully tested on December 22, and at the current stage we started its preliminary [ground] tests," he says. official site Lingtai Kongjian.

As noted by Shu Chang, OS-M will be sent to space also in 2018, but the timing of its launch will take place somewhat later. The businessman explained that in the near future the company headed by him does not plan to use rockets for carrying out complex projects to study outer space. "Competent state structures are engaged in this, at the same time, our task as a private enterprise is the implementation of commercial projects," the general director explained.

In a conversation with reporters, he also said that unlike the American SpaceX, Lingtai Kongjian is going to create compact small-size rockets for satellites that will cost quite inexpensively and therefore will make good competition to similar US projects. At the same time, Shu Chang noted that his company needs additional capitalization to develop more large-capacity launch vehicles.

"This is only the first step, and in 2019 we are predicting a real breakthrough," Shu-Chan said, noting that, despite the long payback of space projects, he expects increased investor attention to the beginnings of his company.

China actively develops the national space program. In addition to meteorological and communication satellites, technologies are being developed in the country to study asteroids and Mars, Chinese scientists intend to begin an intensive study of the surface in 2020-2025.

From what I read from Chinese sources, the rocket they are launching in June (the OS-X) is only sized for sub-orbital flights (100 kg to 800 km altitudes according to their web site).

Their plans for orbital LVs have apparently changed drastically with the first stage motors downsized from their original plans last year (the first one, OS-M1, have only 150 kg capabilities to 500 km high SSO) - there are reports that their original plan to use motors from other Chinese companies (probably CAST or CASIC) fell through.

Another Chinese new small-sat LSP player, LandSpace, had also apparently shelved their original solid motor powered LS-1 and now plans for a methane powered launcher, perhaps for the same reasons.

Maybe it's time for me to finish up my plans to translate info about all these new Chinese small sat rockets, both from established players (CAST/CZ-11, CASIC/KZ series) and new ones (One Space, LandSpace, LinkSpace etc.).  :-[

The flight has flown at 23:33 UTC from "somewhere in northwest China", presumably Jiuquan. The solid motor burned for 35 seconds with maximum velocity more than Mach 5 and highest altitude about 40 km.

By the goals achieved, it reminds me somehow the first missions in the KSP video game.
