Going to be a lot of CRDA stuff, so everyone is welcome to add screenshots, notes of interest and we'll tag team through the weekend to farewells and then we're into undocking.

Next article will be for STS-135. Got a whole lot to update for that one.

Derek Hassmann

Critical item to do was CDRA, not specifically designed to be repaired on orbit and have come a long way with ability to repair the CDRA on orbit
Been working on it most of the day, were a little behind
May finish it tomorrow
Goal is to change out 1 of 2 cartridges
An hour or so away from finishing it, expect it to be done by tomorrow
Continued with transfers
66% done
Did work in joint airlock, preparing EMUs for return on shuttle
Have replaced older parts on the station EMUs with newer parts on shuttle EMUs
Looking ahead to 135 we configured the space suit Mike will use on 135 space walk
FD 14 last min transfers, hatch close
FD 15 - undock

Questions

Q: Are you bringing down the EFGF?

A: Coming down on 135

Q: What happens if you cant finish the CDRA work ?

A: Have 2 functional CDRAs. These can remove all the C02 we need to. If we dont finish tomorrow station crew could do it, or do it after 135.

Q: Would an extra day be useful ?

A: Theres always more to do. Have done all high priority objectives. Already have a long mission

Q: Where did OGS maintence end up ?

A: Finished it, all working as expected

Q: CDRA has 2 beds each with 2 filters?

A: Believe so

Q: Thoughts on seeing the US segment complete on fly around?

A: Flyarounds are always spectacular. Pictures we got with the fish eye lens are some of the most amazing Ive seen.

Q:  Thoughts now the assembly is completed ?

A: Been a lot of ups and downs. In early 90s it seems like there was a 2 year redesign cycle. Doubted wed get any hardware launched. 1998 2003 we went from questions on program happening to getting lots done. We do so much planning work when it actually happens it looks easy. Its a tribute to people at all the NASA centres.

Probably the APU issue, which is minor and I'll write up for FD14's article via cool MMT presentations in you know where.

Can anyone explain that cartoon?

It's a still from Mel Brook's "Young Frankenstein".  That's Marty Feldman as "Igor".  Pronounced "eyegore."  He's getting the brain for transplant and the quote that went under the picture, was "close enough."  This is when he grabs the criminal brain instead of the normal brain.  Perhaps refers to replacing CDRA parts.

No, DragonEye is for Dragon. STORRM stands for "Sensor Test for Orion Relnav Risk Mitigation". It is most definitely for Orion.

The 'Face in Space' event that was to take place now has been put off so they can determine what it is.  The Execute Package incorrectly calls it a playback.  It'a a low priority item, and this is a low priority post.

The issue Mark has is that there isn't clear direction as to what he was to do.  Houston agreed, so they're going to come up with a plan for later.

Houston - "And Mark we really appreciate your offer to leave the airlock panel unstowed for Ron, however we checked and we can't leave it in the open config for that long. So it's airlock overhead alpha two closeout panel and if you have time we're requesting that you be able to re-install that."

Mark - "Yeah I'll be able to get it.  Just give me a few minutes I'll get over there."

Houston - "And there's no rush on it and thank you so much."

Mark - "Yeah there is - we're closin' the hatch."

Houston (smiling) - "That's the only rush, thanks Mark."

The 'Face in Space' event that was to take place now has been put off so they can determine what it is.

I was a "Face in Space" on STS-133. Received my e-flight certificate signed by Cdr. Kelly (Scott). I am also a "Face in Space" on STS-134. Looking forward to my e-certificate after they return.

I was not aware of a "Face in Space" event.

There is going to be a STORRM preview, w/show and tell.

Endeavour performing nearly flawlessly.

Two hours to hatch closure.

Finishing up tasks. CDRA yesterday and finished up today. Finishing cargo transfers. Last of the 02 was transfers.

Reboost using Shuttle prop. 1.8 fps +0.6 nms.

Tidied up Quest.

Questions.

Philip on 02.

A) Topped up the Station tanks 17lbs. Internal 278 lbs.

On STORMM:

A) Couple of degrees pitched down allows for STORMM initial acquisition. Station agreed to allow for this (was a longer answer.

Robert on execute package.

A) Seen something a little big off nominal with ATV. 10 mins out of the flyaround to get imagery.

On docking camera:

A) Added activity for data recorder on FD13. At this point it looks likely won't be able to record, as much as we got great data on RDNZ. Whatever we get will be enough from this mission.

Denise on STORMM - anything to be added for Orion.

A) No, STORMM has proven the sensor can lock on, enough for prox ops. That was the biggest thing to prove (lock on from 5km).

On Endeavour:

A) Been focusing on the long, complex mission. It'll really hit home when Endeavour is sat on the runway. She's performed flawlessly, sad to see her retire, but couldn't think of a better mission for her to have her last flight (Chris likes that).

Question on Reboost:

A) Vehicles coming and going on a regular basis. Long term perspective. ATV there another month. Had a plan to manage altitude. Accepted a little bit of reboost from shuttle. Nothing unique.

On STORMM for asteriod sample return.

A) Received some e-mails from that group. Will have to wait until after the mission. But if you approached something with no reflective surfaces, VNS could paint it. Working with Goddard on another VNS.

On Crew/STORMM.

A) Box will be controlling Endeavour. Sep 1 - Mark will be conducting the STORMM manuevers.

On STORMM commercial:

A) Very valid for any space vehicle.

On Cost:

A) Orion Project paid for a lot. Lockheed bought it, leased it to NASA. 10s of millions in cost. Unit itself is less than $2m. Preps under $10m.

Fair play to everyone who was up for that! 4am is tough!

Hatches between the two spacecraft were open for joint crew operations for a total of 10 days, 23 hours, 45 minutes.

I have a question regarding STORRM.

The handoff of the OBSS to the station resulted in a lack of a true late inspection, so they did a docked late inspection instead.  I've read in the past that a real late inspection has a pretty big effect on reducing probability of an entry failure, and that a docked late inspection has much less effect on reducing that probability, mostly because of reduced coverage and the fact that it's much farther in time from the entry event.

The STORRM re-rendezvous brings the orbiter very close to the same position relative to the ISS as does the RPM maneuver.  So, the question is, why not do a second RPM while they are there to aid in improving late inspection coverage and by having an inspection that's much closer in time to entry?

The RPM is mainly for the tiles, while the FD2/Late inspections are mainly for the RCC areas of the orbiter (nose cap and WLEs).

I am proud whenever I see the glint of the Canadian flag as well on the Canadarm's, and the time and money invested in ISS by Canada.  ISS is great, a true international effort. 2013 ISS gets a Canadian Commander(Chris Hadfield).  I'm proud to be Canadian, and a neighbour/partener to the US.
Man, STS-134 was great.  The ascent imagery was great.
