The following quote is from http://aviationweek.com/space/nasa-spacex-share-data-supersonic-retropropulsion referring to the one thing missing from the fantastic IR imagery NASA got from CRS-4 to study supersonic retropropulsion  "The final, single-engine touchdown was out of the cameras’ fields of view because of clouds, but the project plans to image at least one more Falcon 9 launch and may be able to capture the entire first-stage descent trajectory, if weather permits."

I hope the "at least one more Falcon 9 launch" is CRS-5 and NASA obtains IR imagery through the entire decent of the first stage to a successful landing on a barge  ;D  If this happens I may need to pinch myself to be sure I'm not dreaming  ;)

Is this definitely the next SpaceX flight, i.e. no flights in November?

Yes.

(The only open question is when is Pad Abort, but that's not an orbital flight)

NASA Media Accreditation Opens for Launch of Next SpaceX Station Resupply Mission

Media accreditation is open for the launch of NASA's next commercial cargo resupply flight to the International Space Station.

SpaceX is currently targeting no earlier than Dec. 9 for lift off of its Dragon spacecraft atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) in Florida. This will be the company's sixth visit to the space station and fifth commercial resupply mission, delivering several tons of supplies, including new science experiments and technology research.

Prelaunch and launch activities for media will take place at CCAFS and nearby at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. International media without U.S. citizenship must apply for credentials to cover activities by Nov. 2 to gain access to CCAFS for the launch. Accreditation is open until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 17 for international media without U.S. citizenship who do not need access to CCAFS. The deadline for U.S. media to apply for credentials is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

All media accreditation requests must be submitted online at:

https://media.ksc.nasa.gov

International journalists must submit a scanned copy of their "I" visa and passport. Green card holders must submit a scanned copy of their card. Questions about accreditation and all scanned documents should be directed to Jennifer Horner at [email protected], 321-867-6598 or 321-867-2468.

All media representatives must present two forms of legal, government identification to access Kennedy. One form must be a photo ID, such as a passport or driver's license.

Do we have any confirmation that this is going down on a barge? It's going to be absolutely surreal.

Elon said something relevant to this at the MIT Aeroastro symposium:

"for the upcoming launch I think we've got a chance of landing on a floating platform" ... "being constructed at a shipyard in Louisiana right now" ... "we're going to try to land on that on the next flight"

This seems to me like he must mean SPX-5, given the history of reusability testing following stage separation on SPX missions.

This was already picked up by at least one web article I read today.

Yes, he means SpX-5, if the barge is ready in time. More discussion of the barge landing is going on over here:

Given the ORB-CRS-3 failure, has there been any noise being made about bringing forward SpX-CRS-5 and reconfiguring its manifest to mitigate any losses?

I have read that the manifest might be adjusted a bit, but nothing about changing the launch date; the ISS is pretty well stocked.

If anything changes in the payload might move that flight to the right.
