GO Searcher returned to Port Canaveral last night.  NASA/SpaceX is targeting splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico at 10:33pm ET on Nov 8th, using GO Navigator.

Does this mean that this is an ascending node entry?  Or can they target the Gulf on descending nodes?

Last time, the descending node entry over the US made for a surprise spectacle across the entire southeast (Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, etc.).  If it's a descending node entry, especially in the evening and with clear skies forecast, I want to get the word out about it!

EDIT: thanks kdhilliard for the informative reply!  Good point about just looking at ISS flyover predicts to determine whether this is ascending or descending.

PSA #1: Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four char) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or to avoid bloat.
PSA #2:  Use Google's "site:" operator to quickly find threads on NSF; google those three words for guidance  *** two more tips in profile ***

...

I don't know if they can target the Gulf on a descending node, but tonight's reentry will be from an ascending one.
Station will make an unlit 22:28 EST pass over Pensacola tonight on an ascending node.

Heavens-Above: Pass Details
Note: Pensacola is on Central Standard Time (CST), so the pass is at 21:28 local.

SpaceX and NASA are targeting no earlier than Monday, November 8 at 2:05 p.m. EST, 7:05 UTC, for Dragon to autonomously undock from the International Space Station and splash down approximately 8 hours later off the coast of Florida.

Aboard the spacecraft will be Crew-2 astronauts Shane Kimbrough, Megan McArthur, Akihiko Hoshide, Thomas Pesquet, who were launched to the space station from historic Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Saturday, April 23, 2021.

∂ After performing a series of departure burns to move away from the space station, Dragon will conduct multiple orbit-lowering maneuvers, jettison the trunk, and re-enter Earth’s atmosphere for a soft-water landing at approximately 10:33 p.m. EST on Monday, November 8.

After Crew-2’s safe return to Earth, SpaceX and NASA will target no earlier than Wednesday, November 10 at 9:03 p.m. EST, or 1:03 UTC on November 11, for Falcon 9’s launch of the Crew-3 mission to the International Space Station.

The webcast of Crew-2’s return to Earth will go live about 2.5 hours prior to undocking.
