New batch of OneWeb spacecraft delivered to French Guiana

01/17/2022 16:01

A new batch of OneWeb spacecraft was delivered to the Guiana Space Center as part of mission No. 34. The next stage of work is the preparation of vehicles at the technical complex of the European spaceport.

On Saturday, January 15, 2022, the refueling of the propulsion systems of the Fregat upper stage with compressed gases and fuel components began. The work is carried out by specialists of the Scientific and Production Association named after S.A. Lavochkin and the Center for the Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Objects (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

The launch of the Soyuz-ST-B launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 34 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled for February 10, 2022.

It is planned that in 2022 there will be 7 launches of OneWeb spacecraft, with six from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, and one from the Guiana Space Center. OneWeb low-orbit spacecraft are designed to provide terrestrial consumers with high-speed Internet.

Over 30 OneWeb satellites delivered to Kourou spaceport for launch atop Soyuz rocket.

The next step is to prepare the spacecraft at the technical compound of the European spaceport.

17 JAN, 07:05

MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. Over 30 British OneWeb communications satellites were delivered to the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana for launch atop a Russian Soyuz-ST-B carrier rocket in February, Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos announced on Monday.

"A new batch of OneWeb spacecraft was delivered to the Guiana Space Center as part of Mission 34. The next phase of work is to prepare the spacecraft at the technical compound of the European spaceport, the statement says.

On January 15, specialists of the Lavochkin Research and Production Association and the Center for Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities Operation (both integrated into Roscosmos) began filling the Fregat upper stage propulsion systems with compressed gases and fuel components, it said.

"The Soyuz-ST-B rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 34 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled to launch on February 10, 2022," Roscosmos specified.

CEO of the commercial launch operator Glavkosmos (part of Roscosmos) Dmitry Loskutov earlier told TASS that seven launches of British OneWeb communications satellites were scheduled for 2022. The first launch was scheduled to take place from the Guiana space center (the Kourou cosmodrome) in February, he specified.

British OneWeb low-orbit satellites are designed to create a space-based communications system to provide high-speed Internet access in any locality worldwide. Currently, the OneWeb orbital cluster comprises 394 satellites. All of them were orbited by Russian Soyuz carrier rockets.

bold by me,
no Fregat-MT,
(I think, the MT is too high for OneWeb and no need for enlarged fuel tanks)

Arianespace to serve OneWeb’s ambitions, will orbit 34 additional satellites with Soyuz

- After the successful launch of NASA’s Webb Space Telescope on December 25 with Ariane 5, Arianespace is back to the Guiana Space Center (CSG) with Soyuz for a February 10 lift-off.

– The first Arianespace mission of the year will orbit 34 additional OneWeb satellites.

– With this mission, Arianespace will exceed 100 satellites launched on Soyuz from the CSG, while OneWeb’s fleet will be brought to 428 satellites on Low Earth Orbit.

Scheduled for February 10 at 03:09 p.m. local time (06:09 p.m. UTC), Arianespace’s Soyuz Flight VS27 will mark the European launch service provider’s first flight of the year. Performed from the Soyuz Launch Complex (ELS) at Sinnamary, French Guiana, Flight VS27 will put 34 of OneWeb’s satellites into a near-polar orbit at an altitude of 450 kilometers. The total duration of the mission will be 3 hours and 33 minutes and will include nine satellite separations, after which the satellites will subsequently raise themselves to their operational orbit.

This thirteenth launch for OneWeb will deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity services to a wide range of customer sectors including aviation, maritime, backhaul services, as well as governments, emergency response services and more. Central to its purpose, OneWeb seeks to bring connectivity to every place where fiber cannot reach, and thereby bridge the digital divide.

Once deployed, the OneWeb constellation will work with user terminals that are capable of offering 3G, LTE, 5G and Wi-Fi coverage, providing high-speed access globally – by air, sea and land.

The next OneWeb missions through 2022 will enable the start of OneWeb’s global services this year.

OneWeb Satellites, a joint venture between OneWeb and Airbus Defence and Space, is the constellation’s prime contractor. The satellites were built thanks to its leading-edge satellite manufacturing process that can build up to two satellites a day on a series production line dedicated to the assembly, integration, and testing of the satellites.

Arianespace offers proven launch solutions, fully adapted to the requirements of constellations and validated by the market. The 34 OneWeb satellites on Flight VS27 will be the 561st to 594th constellation satellites launched by Arianespace and will put at over 100 the number of satellites launched on Soyuz from the CSG.
