From The Amazing Catstronaut on the Black Arrow LV:
British physics, old chap. It's undignified to belch flames and effluvia all over the pad, what. A true gentlemen's orbital conveyance lifts itself into the air unostentatiously, with the minimum of spectacle and a modicum of grace. Not like our American cousins' launch vehicles, eh?

Thanks for posting. Looking back now, some of those were VERY optimistic for their time, though they may yet come true. Two stage to orbit is something the Russians considered with MAKS as recently as the noughties and I still have high hopes that Skylon will eventually get off the ground, once the British economy is in a position to support it. It could take Major Tim's mission to the ISS to gather enough public momentum to go for it!

For the record, Enterprise began construction 39 years ago today (4th June 1974).
Apollo, Soyuz, Shuttle...SKYLON.
