Proton-M launch vehicle sent to Baikonur

On the night of July 22, 2019 from the GKNPTK rocket-space plant Mv Khrunichev (part of Roscosmos State Corporation) sent launch vehicles to the Baikonur cosmodrome as part of the Proton-M launch vehicle, the head fairing, the transition system and the Briz-M upper stage for cluster launch of Eutelsat 5 West B and MEV satellites one.

The transportation is carried out in accordance with the contract signed in 2016 by the International Launch Services company and the global satellite communications operator Eutelsat on the use of the Proton-M launch vehicle for launching two spacecraft into orbit.

The Khrunichev Center is the main shareholder of ILS, which has the exclusive right to market and commercially operate Proton launch vehicles. Over the years of commercial operation, it went through several stages of modernization and was adapted for launching spacecraft of almost all types according to various launching schemes.

A Proton-M carrier rocket intended to launch the MEV-1 (Mission Extension Vehicle) and the Eutelsat 5WB has been delivered to the Baikonur spaceport from the Khrunichev Space Center (part of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos), the Center’s press office reported on Wednesday.

"The echelon with the Proton-M space rocket’s parts (three stages of the carrier rocket, the booster, the adapter system and the nose fairing) has arrived at the technical compound of the Proton launch vehicle to gear up for the cluster launch of the [Eutelsat] space vehicles 5 West B and MEV," the press office said.

Representatives of the Khrunichev Space Center added that technological operations would soon begin at the assembly and test building 92A50 to prepare the rocket at the spaceport’s technical compound.

The commercial launch of the Proton-M launch vehicle with the European telecommunications satellite Eutelsat 5 West B and the American technological Mission Extension Vehicle-1 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome is scheduled for September 30, a spokesman for the Russian Space Agency told RIA Novosti on Friday.
In July, RIA Novosti sources in the space and rocket industry said that the launch was postponed from August to September.
"This commercial launch is planned for September 30, the work will be organized in accordance with this date," the source said.
In 2019, three Proton-M missiles were launched; three more launches are planned before the end of the year.

EUTELSAT 5 WEST B AND SPACELOGISTICS MEV-1 SPACECRAFT ARRIVE IN BAIKONUR
28 AUG 2019
The Antonov carrying both the EUTELSAT 5 West B and SpaceLogistics MEV-1 spacecraft arrived today at Yubileiny Airport in Kazakhstan around 11:30 am local time. Offload of ground support equipment and both spacecraft proceeded smoothly and both spacecraft are in route by train to the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The launch is scheduled for September 30 at 6:26 a.m. Eastern Time / 3:26 p.m. Baikonur time. The Proton is stored in Hall 111 while the Breeze M is in its processing area in Hall 101.

Built by Airbus Defence and Space and Northrop Grumman, EUTELSAT 5 West B will serve video markets in Europe and North Africa from the key 5° West orbital position where it will replace the EUTELSAT 5 West A satellite, providing business continuity and improved service quality via a Ku-band payload of 35 equivalent 36 MHz transponders.

SpaceLogistics LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman, provides cooperative in-orbit satellite servicing to geosynchronous satellite operators using its fleet of commercial servicing vehicles. Their servicing vehicle, the Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV)™ docks with customers’ existing satellites providing the propulsion and attitude control needed to extend their lives.

In accordance with the launch campaign schedule, Russian and foreign experts continue to conduct autonomous tests of the components of the space head. September 5, 2019 specialists of the State Scientific and Technical Center named after M.V. Khrunicheva (part of Roscosmos State Corporation) and Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems (satellite manufacturer) performed a series of joint electrical inspections of the transition system to conduct trial tests.

The adapter adapter system developed and manufactured at the Khrunichev Center will ensure the docking of spacecraft with the Breeze-M booster block. On September 6, a series of pilot tests is planned for compatibility of the interfaces of the transition system and the Eutelsat-5WB and MEV-1 satellites.

The launch of the Proton-M launch vehicle with the Briz-M booster block and the Eutelsat-5WB and MEV-1 spacecraft is planned to be launched in late September 2019.

Behind the scenes at the IMG studio in preparation for the upcoming launch broadcast.

I think John is narrating the mission profile video in one of the pics. But he could have also done other videos.

The orbital unit of Bris-M and the two satellites is already assembled.
I hope that does not have to be disassembled now.
