An interesting note from the ISS On-Orbit Status Report for 8/9/12:

"Joe & Aki Hoshide then spent several hours operating the RMS from Kibo to unberth the MCE (Multi-Mission Consolidated Equipment (MCE) platform (grappled yesterday) and transfer it to the EFU8 (Exposed Facility Unit 8 ) position on JEF (JEM Exposed Facility) for berthing, followed by capture latch closing and payload heater activation.      [After Arm Bus data transfer to SSC via USB memory stick, the RMS monitors, CCP (Crew Command Panel) and RLT (Robotics Laptop) were deactivated and the power cables disconnected.  Overnight, the ground team will perform an MT (Mobile Transporter) translation and walk off the SSRMS.  The EP (External Pallet) will then be unberthed by the ground and handed off from the JEMRMS to the SSRMS.  The pallet will be inserted back into HTV by the crew tomorrow, using the SSRMS.]"

I was under the impression that all HTV-3 robotics (including use of JEM RMS) would be ground controlled?

A very cool thing happened very early this morning. The first ever ground controlled robotic handoff!

Although both Legs and the JEM (JAXA) robot can be controlled by the astronauts onboard ISS, they are controlled by the ground more and more

Earlier today, the KIBOTTs in Japan and the ROBOs in Houston & Montreal handed the Exposed Pallet from the Japanese arm to the Canadian arm

This completes the HTV3 payload operations! Even I got to play a little, installing the SCAN payload (controlled by ROBO, of course)

The crew never gets to play with me :-(

BUT, all this ground controlled robotics meant that the crew could perform A LOT of science this week instead of robotics all day, every day
