The only opening into the inside is most likely sealed off. Note that about the only times plastic covers are used on station hardware is when they have hatches or covers left open, use exposed connectors/plugs that need to be protected, or are covered to protect from water/debris damage during tropical weather emergencies.
As well, it's also located in the low-ceiling side area off the main high-bay SSPF room - much less activity (and no cranes passing overhead) that can generate small dust/debris particles.
